Cloie and Leister Presley of the White County Historical Society first listed this "well-kept" cemetery October 3, 1990 and published their information in the 1992 edition of White County Heritage. Velvet Ridge Cemetery is located seven miles north of Bald Knob. To reach it, go north from Velvet Ridge on Highway 167 about one-quarter mile to Honey Holler Road and turn right. The cemetery is about 200 yards down this road on the right.
The cemetery was described as "very clean" when it was visited by Leroy and Ellen Blair of the White County Historical Society March 1, 2001. They found approximately 100 names that were not on the Presley list. They also found some 25 graves marked only with rocks and saw several depressions that appeared to be unmarked graves.
The Presleys numbered the burial sites, and their original report listed the sites in numerical order. First, they started east of the road and listed graves numerically from west to east. Then they worked west of the road, listing sites numerically from east to west. The final section lists graves numerically "below the road." The names are alphabetized here but the Presleys’ original gravesite number is shown in parenthesis after each name.
Leroy Blair added information to this list in late 2002. Subsequent additions have been made by the Historical Society based on published obituaries.
