White County Historical Society Program Notes - October

‘TRAIL OF TEARS’ HISTORIAN TO PRESENT

PROGRAM MONDAY, OCTOBER 24, AT 7 P.M.

Trail of Tears historian Carolyn Yancey Kent will address the White County Historical Society in our regular monthly meeting Monday, October 24, at Harding Place in Searcy.  She will focus on the removal of Indians across Arkansas from 1830 to 1840 and discuss various research activities.  Carolyn is secretary/historian for the Arkansas Chapter Trail of Tears Association and an award-winning writer of historical material.  She is also active in the Jacksonville Museum of Military History and is looking for people who worked at the ordnance plants in Arkansas in World War II.   Many of our members asked for a comprehensive program on the Trail of Tears and now you've got it - from a respected authority.  The Trail of Tears is a metaphor for removal of Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muscogee Creek and Florida Indians to Oklahoma.  Don't miss this unique presentation.  The meeting will be conducted in the dining room and will start at 7.
