NEW WHITE COUNTY HISTORY…

“CHIPS FROM THE WOOD YARD”

BENEFITS PHILADELPHIA CEMETERY

A near-capacity crowd of some 120 people was on hand at Harding Place in Searcy June 27 for the introduction of a new White County history.  Entitled “Chips From The Wood Yard,” it is a collection of true stories written by the late Adele Meacham Wood of Little Red.   The book was produced by Mrs. Wood’s daughters, Mariola Payne of Dover, Arkansas, and Laquita Kent of Washington, DC, who read excerpts to the large audience.   The first printing of the book quickly sold out and is now in its second printing.  It may be ordered for $14 postage paid from WCHS, P.O. Box 537, Searcy, AR 72145.    The daughters are members of the White County Historical Society, which is helping promote the book.   Proceeds will go to Philadelphia Cemetery, where Mrs. Wood and her husband Boyce are buried.  There are 52 stories, 59 old photographs and 207 pages in the book.

Many Depression-era families in northern White County are mentioned or pictured.
