The timber industry has been enormously important to the settlement and growth of White County. These log haulers pose for a family portrait (two men, two women, two boys and a girl) in the woods at Tyler, Arkansas, in 1917. They were headed for Doniphan Lumber Company and are carrying a log that appears to have come from a huge pine tree. Can you imagine handling such a load by hand? The man in the middle is leaning proudly on the crosscut saw that probably did the job.
