Strelsa Morris Machen spent her early childhood on a hill farm in White County near Hammonsville and Mt. Vernon, Arkansas. She held a BSE degree from Arkansas State Teachers College and a M. Ed. Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She taught in Arkansas schools for 35 years. Observing her students’ love for stories of farm life and “olden times,” she began to write about her own childhood. Their enthusiasm was her inspiration to publish a series of books about farm life in early White County.
