The photographer did not record how John Gray kept that straw hat on his head while riding his horse to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in 1900.  The age of the church building is not known but it looks old here. There are panes of glass missing in the window, and the window appears to have been a door at one time. John Andrew Gray was the youngest son of Jesse Franklin Gray and Mary Jane Parks Gray.  J.F. settled at Mt. Pisgah before the Civil War. See “The Grays of Mt. Pisgah” under Memories of Yesterday on this website. The photo is courtesy of Ron Strong, a member of the White County Historical Society and descendent of J.G. Gray.
