Forrestine Taggart, Deputy Circuit Clerk, provided us with a copy of the deed to the property upon which Holly Grove Cemetery is located. The deed, found in Deed Book G, on page 255, is from Rufus K. Fitzhugh and wife H. E. Fitzhugh to Lewis Morton, Willis Herndon, and Scott Taylor, trustees for teh Colored Baptist Church known as Taylor's Chapel.

Dated July 3, 1885, it conveys: "One acre of land out of Section 5, Townsip eight North, Range Three West, in Woodruff County, State of Arkansas, to be laid off in a square form on the township line between Township 8 and 9 and near the building now used by the Colored members of the Baptist Denomination as a place of worship and known as Taylor's Chapel and to include said Chapel within its boundary."

The present Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church is located across the road from the original Taylor's Chapel, which it succeeded in organization. The church and cemetery are on the road leading from Highway 33 to Fitzhugh, about eight miles north of Augusta.

On May 4, 1976, when Jones Montague and I stopped at the cemetery, the foliage and briars were so dense we could not see any stones or markers from the outer edge of the area. We were unable to contact anyone who knew of persons buried in the cemetery, and here again we are indebted to Rhodes Funeral Home for assistance in recording some of the burials in this cemetery. The last burial for which we could find any record occurred in 1969.
