by Gary TelfordMiss Lara Loretta Ann Sisk was born May 29, 1932 in Cave City, Sharp County Arkansas. She married Howard Ray Davis. She was one of eleven children born to Homer Olen Sisk and Bartha Jane Marlin Sisk.
Her siblings were; (1) James Dillard Sisk born August 23, 1926 in Cave City, AR and died August 24, 1926 in Cave City, he was buried in the Fairview Cemetery near Cave City. (2) Noah Oneal Sisk born September 19, 1927 at Cave City, AR and died February 23, 1979 at Batesville, AR. He married Hazel Rosetta Holder February 23, 1945 at Lake City, Craighead County, AR. She was born July 7, 1927 and died October 26, 1965 at Batesville, AR. Both are buried at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Cushman, Independence County, AR. (3) Abner Hicks Sisk born March 31, 1929 in Cave City, AR and died April 1976 at Bald Knob, White County, AR. He married Earlene Florene Allen in October of 1948 in Vandale, AR, daughter of Edgar C. Allen (1900-1956) and Ethel C. Sills (1905-1992). She was born October 4, 1931 at McClelland, Woodruff County, AR and died at her home in Bald Knob, AR January 23, 1999. Both are buried in the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett, White County, AR. (4) Laura Loretta Ann Sisk, (Above). (5) Billy Olen Sisk born at Cave City, AR. (6) Myra Jane (Twin) Sisk born at Cave City, AR. (7) Myra Joe (Twin) Sisk born at Cave City, AR. (8) Lois Dean (Twin) Sisk born at Cave City, AR. (9) Paul Wayne (Twin) Sisk born at Cave City, AR. (10) Mary Kathren "Kay" Sisk born at Cherry Valley, Cross County, AR. (11) Samuel Ronnie Sisk born at Wynne, Cross County, AR.
Homer Olen Sisk was born March 27, 1906 at Cushman, Independence County, AR. He was one of six children born to Alexander Hicks "Alec" Sisk and Martha Ann "Matt" Simons Sisk. On May 24, 1925 in Cave City, AR, Homer married Bartha Jane Marlin, daughter of Abner Madison Marlin (1870-1945)and Laura Lue "Ludie" Shaw Marlin (1879-1960). They were the parents of all eleven children listed above. Homer Olen Sisk died in a Little Rock hospital January 3, 1967 and was buried in the Woodman Cemetery in McCrory, Woodruff County, AR. Bartha Jane Marlin Sisk died March 16, 1972 in Hot Springs, Garland County, AR and was buried in the Woodman Cemetery in McCrory, AR. Homer and Bartha were residents of McCrory for many years. They have many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who live in this area now.
Alexander Hicks "Alec" Sisk was born in February 1863 in Tennessee and he later migrated to Independence County Arkansas settling at Cushman. On July 20, 1890 he married Martha Ann "Matt" Simons Nelson who had been married to John W. Nelson. Martha and John Nelson had one child Eddie Nelson. Alexander and Martha Sisk had six children all born at Cushman, AR. (1) Nellie Ethel Sisk was born August 19, 1891 and married William Elbert "Willie" Elkins. Nellie died December 26, 1969 in Mesa, Arizona and was buried in the Wewoka Cemetery at Seminole, Oklahoma. (2) Nora A. Sisk was born July 1894 and married Elisha F. Clark, "Whitey" Pilott, and a Mr. Babb. Nora died in Wewoka, Seminole County, OK. (3) Walter S. Sisk was born May 1897 and never married. He died after June 5, 1918 in probably Oklahoma. (4) Bartlett "Bart" Sisk was born November 1899 and we have no futher information on him. (5) Homer Olen Sisk, (above). (6) Opal Sisk was born and we have no futher information on her.
Alexander and Martha were farmers at Cushman and was farming 78 acres of land when he was 37 years old. In the 1920's Alexander and Martha left Arkansas for Oklahoma traveling in a covered wagon. They settled at Wewoka, Oklahoma and raised their family there.
Alexander died September 12, 1941 at his home after an extended illiness and was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, OK. Martha died April 10, 1951 in Sasakwa, Seminole County, OK and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery next to her husband. Martha Ann Simons was the daughter of Daniel Edwin Simons (1839-1882) and Allie Phair Spence Simons (1845-1933).
On February 23, 1947 Miss Lara Loretta Ann Sisk married Howard Ray Davis who was born February 5, 1930 in Wynne, AR. They were married at Cherry Valley, Cross County, AR, by the Rev. M. D. Garner. Howard was the son of James William "Bill" Davis (1893-1963) and Nellie Leola Damron Davis (1906-1995). Howard and Loretta were blessed with five children born to them and one adopted daughter, La Vonne L. "Tootie" Sisk Davis. "Tootie was the daughter of Noah Oneal Sisk and Hazel Rosetta Holder Sisk. (1) Bobby Ray Davis. (2) Carolyn Diann Davis. (3) Patricia Ann Davis. (4) Rebecca Jo Davis. (5) Betty Jane Davis. (6) La Vonne L. "Tootie" Sisk Davis.
James William "Bill" Davis was born November 5, 1893 in Hardin County, TN. He was the son of Daniel Ibe Davis (1868-1923) and Barbara Virginia Aby Honeycutt Davis (1870-1951). On November 19, 1921 in Wynne, Cross County, AR, he married Nellie Leola Damron who was born March 12, 1906 in Wynne, AR. Nellie was the daughter of William Carroll Damron (1860-1930) and Edie Carolyn Cobb Damron (1865-1939).
James William "Bill" Davis and Nellie Leola Damron Davis had seven children all born at Wynne, AR, as follows; (1) William Daniel "Dee" Davis who married Gertrude Ross in 1946 in Cross County, AR. (2) Lena Mae Davis who married Sam Blake Jr. and later married Jesse McKibben. (3) Howard Ray Davis, (above). (4) James Wesley "Dub" Davis who married Fonza Yvonne Pitts. (5) Carl Edmond "Bo" Davis married Joyce M. Hall. (6) Bessie Geraldene "Katie" (Twin) Davis who is married to Len Gordon Thomas. (7) Jessie Earldene "Zip" (Twin) Davis who married Linda Joyce Caldwell.
James William "Bill" Davis died October 17, 1963 at Wynne, AR and was buried at Akin Cemetery at Vandale, Cross County, AR. Nellie Leola Damron Davis died January 26, 1995 at Wynne, AR and was buried in the Akin Cemetery next to her husband.
