Excerpted from History of Pope County p570 - John Parker: John Parker was born in Maryland in 1780. He married Rachel (last name unknown) [Shipley, ed. see History of Arkansas] born in Pennsylvania in 1784. About 1822 they moved to what is now eastern Alabama where they were allowed to live and farm in Indian Territory, for reasons unknown. In 1832 the indians were driven out and the territory was divided into five counties with John and Family living in Chambers County, Alabama. John and a family of five boys and three girls were still living there in 1840. Sometime between 1841 and 1844 [1842, ed.] John chose to move his family west, stopping in Pope County, Arkansas. It is believed that some of his older boys and neighbors proceeded on to settle in Texas. However, John with his wife Rachel, sons Joshua M. and Meredith W. and daughters Louisa, Jemima and Mary A., (born in Arkansas) remained in Pope County.

My grandmother, Lola Agnes LEAKE, was born in Ola in 1903. She got a delayed birth certificate in the 1940's. Could someone look in the 1900 Yell County census for Felton Pierce LEAKE or Moses Asbury LEAKE? Felton "Pierce" LEAKE was Lola's father. I think maybe Moses "Asbury" Leake (a minister) was either living with his son or another son in the same area. Moses Asbury LEAKE is supposed to be buried in a Yell Co. cemetery. I have never found these two men in the census. I did find Felton "Pierce" LEAKE in the 1910 and 1920 censuses, but that was with his wife and children. I am really looking for something that identifies Felton as the son of Moses. I just really think that Moses must have been living with someone else and therefore is not listed as head of household. After the closing of the Civil War, they moved first to Logan Co, AR, then to Yell Co in the1870's, homesteading in the Liberty Hall community. As far as I know the land is still in the RINGER family. George and Carolyn's children are Addie Narcissus (Sissy), Jennie, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Alfred, and Harve George (12/2/1861-10/15/1936). Harve George married Annie Mae Barricks (my great-grandparents) and had these children: Orland, Esau, Jeff, Unit, Jacob (my grandfather), Mollie, Henry, and Ida. Jacob RINGER married Margaret Ethel Porter (born in Montgomery Co, AR). Would like to correspond and share information with anyone working on these lines.
