EARLY MARRIAGES
I would like to send for copies of several early marriages in Yell
County. I know that they should be ordered from the County Clerk; but
what is the cost per record? Most sites on the web provide a generic
letter and cost of these records but I have spent much time searching
different sites and haven't found one yet with this information.
Generally, the computer makes all of this much more convenient. Thank
you,

Georgia (Fruen)

DICKERSON, FRUEN, WALT, SOLOMON
I am seeking information on the family of Joseph and Cordelia
FRUEN (sometimes spelled FRUIN). Joseph and Cordelia
are on the 1880 census for Yell Co AR. Cordelia
had three children by her first marriage:
Henry Calvin Dickerson, Josephine Dickerson who married William Walt in
1875 and Evaline Dickerson who married J J Solomon in 1878. I don't have the marriage for
Henry Calvin.
Joseph and Cordelia had one son, William Edward Fruen who married Isabel Callahan in Scott Co AR in
1907. Cordelia, as Fruin,
acquired land by a federal land grant in 1883. The document states
that she is the widow of Joseph Fruin. This
narrows his death date for me, as he appearred on
the 1880 census. I have checked the cemetery records and found
nothing on him. But, he obviously died in Yell Co. Another
puzzle: Josephine is listed on the 1880 census with Joseph and Cordelia as a Dickerson. Were there two Josephine
Dickerson's of the same
age? Probably not. Yet, I can find nothing further on William
Walt. He isn't listed in the cemetery books either. Since he
was somewhat older than she, I wondered if he died between 1875 and
1880. I found H C Dickerson on the personal property tax records for
1887 in Yell
Co. Cordelia died in 1919 at the home of
William Ed Fruen in Waldron, Scott Co, AR.

REECE / SCOTT / CORNELIUS / SULLENS / MAXWELL /
GILES / DAVIS / MYERS
Early Scott/Yell Co. settler, Abihu REECE
m. Caroline SCOTT in Pulaski Co. AR, built one of the first mills in
that area of AR. However, little is known about the man. His wife died
after giving birth to 4 children, and Abihu then
married a young lady in the Upper LaFave area
named Margaret CORNELIUS. Before they had any children of their own,
Abihu died, circa 1849, and since Margaret was
very young and the children were not hers, the four orphans were placed in
various homes by census time of 1850. Margaret, a daughter of Pamelia SULLENS CORNELIUS (no remarried to John
H. MAXWELL), soon remarried herself to John K. GILES. The
orphaned children were: Henderson, Marion, Radford, & Mary Ann REECE.
Why were these children placed primarily in the home of Wm. K. Billy & Elzira DAVIS. Two lived
wth them; another lived with their son, Edward W.
Ned & Mary B. MAXWELL DAVIS, and the oldest boy, Henderson,
lived with Lucy & Christian MYERS. I have been trying to follow
up on these children for years. Indications are that the girl went to Texas
with the Davis family, but I have not been able to find the boys. Karylon A. Russell, Box 823, Llano, TX 78643

DAVIS / GARRETT / MAXWELL / MILLER / WATSON /
MARR / CORNELIUS
In the early 1850's many of the earliest settlers of Yell Co. AR (some who
had been living in Scott Co. AR several years before Yell was created),
left the Lower LaFave area for Texas. Among these
families included the following: Wm. K. (Billy) & Elzira
DAVIS; children of Isaac D. MAXWELL (decd); Wm Hudspeth &
Amanda Morgan MILLER; John S. & Telitha
Cumi Poor WATSON; Merrill Simpson GARRETT.
All of these families ended up along the Colorado River area in either
Llano or Burnet Co. TX. By the late 1870's members of these families joined
them: CORNELIUS, MARR, Jordan S. & Elvira Maxwell PARKS;
James Taylor MAXWELL; children of Absolom
& Melcenie Cornelius MAXWELL; James
Carter GARRETT. Descendants of almost all of these families still
live in this area of Texas. I can provide a lot of information on some of
these families and some on others. I hope this will be of help to many
researchers of this early period of Yell Co. history. Karylon

DAVIS / FRY (FRIE) / MAXWELL / HAMLIN
I have been searching for years for proof of the parentage of Elzira ?
DAVIS, b. ca. 1807/8 TN m. Wm. K. (Billy) DAVIS ca. 1824
prob. Giles Co. TN. The family came to early AR, first in Crawford/Johnson
CO., then Scott/Yell Co. by 1836. Their children were: Thomas Henry (m.
Martha FRY/FRIE in AR); Edward W. "Ned" (m. Mary B. MAXWELL
in Yell Co.); Caleb A. (m. in TEXAS); Benjamin F.(m.
in TEXAS), Lucy Parthena (m. Alvis
D. HAMLIN from Johnson Co. AR in Texas); M.D.L. (m. in TEXAS); &
Margaret Melcenie (m. brother of Mary B. MAXWELL
in Texas). Elzira disappears from Llano Co. TX
tax rolls circa 1864, but since no burial spot has ever been located, it is
only assumed she died at this time. About the only solid clues I have about
her are the name clues mentioned above as well as her own, which is very
rare indeed. All other clues are pure speculation. Karylon

KENDRICK
In November 98 we visited the cemetery in Bluffton where my great
grandmother is buried. I know nothing of her background, not even her aiden name. What I do know, I got off her tombstone.
Her name was Margret E. KENDRICK. She was born January 20, 1875 and
died February 24, 1911. She died in childbirth and the infant is buried
with her. My great grandfathers' name was E.A. (Edward, I believe) KENDRICK.
I remember him as a young child, but know nothing of his background either.
He left Yell County after my great grandmother died. Any information would
be helpful and greatly appreciated.
