1837 Property Tax List

In 1837, Arkansas residents were taxed on a wide variety of personal as well as real property. The tax lists indicate that no Benton County resident paid taxes on real property. Only those categories for which Benton County residents were actually taxed are included here.

Column headings have been abbreviated. A complete list of all taxable categories, showing the full column headings with explanations, appears below the tax list.

"?" in a column indicates the listed value was unreadable.

"x" in a column indicates that part of the page is missing from the scanned copy.

In a few cases, names are listed, but there is no indication of quantities, values, or a tax amount.

Note that taxes were calculated and payable down to 1/4 of one cent.
