M. Johnson
Leona McBride Johnson, 93, of Live Oak died June 2, 2002, at Rideout Memorial
Hospital. Born in Oden, Ark., she had been a Yuba-Sutter resident since 1942.
She was a cannery worker for more than 20 years and a member of the Live Oak
Assembly of God. Survivors include two sons; two stepsons, Hub Johnson a
stepdaughter, Neva Nicolau of Marysville; two brothers, Glenn Hicks and Clifford
Hicks, both of Arkansas; a sister, Bethel Hicks of Arkansas; 10 grandchildren;
12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her husbands, Clarence McBride and George Johnson; a son, James
McBride; and a daughter, Velma Wilson. Services: Visitation will be held from 4
to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Thursday at the
Live Oak Assembly of God. Burial will be held at Live Oak Cemetery.
Clarence Elmer Payte, age 87, of Mount
Ida, died Sunday, October 27, 2002 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was born on
April 20, 1915, at Mazarn, Arkansas, the son of Richard Fredrick Payte and Sina
Isabell Alexander Payte. On February 28, 1937, he was married to Viola Fay
Widener. He was a retired carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He
was a Faithful Priesthood Holder, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints - Glenwood Branch, and a member of the American Legion Post
#313 of Mount Ida. He was a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Fay Payte of Mount Ida;
four sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Lanita Payte of Hot Springs, Jerry
and Linda Payte of Peonia, Colorado, Ralph and Angie Payte of Grand Junction,
Colorado, and Bruce and Carmelita Payte of Delores, Colorado; two daughters and
son-in-law, Betty Wheeler of Mount Ida, Mildred and Cleon Hess of Garland, Utah;
four brothers, Leonard Payte of Arvada, Colorado, Robert Payte of Grand
Junction, Colorado, Roy Payte of Phoenix, Arizona, and Harold Payte of Golden,
Colorado; two sisters, Virginia Moran of Hyannis, Nebraska and Nelene Kormack of
Surprise, Arizona; thirty-one grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and
one great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 4, 2002,
at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-Glenwood Branch, with
President Bart Brumwell and Bro. Alan Palmer officiating. Interment will be in
the Mount Tabor Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of Davis-Smith
Funeral Home, Glenwood. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
