BALLARD, T.N. - 10 Sep 1937-p1 [LNR-1] of Jonesboro died Fri in Memphis hospital; services attended by W.H. Powell, T.A. Holt of Marked Tree and H.R. Payne of West Memphis in Caruthersville.

BOWDEN, Alton - 31 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 16yrs of El Dorado, was killed in auto accident on 21 Dec; survived by mother, Mrs. M.S. Gaddy of El Dorado, father, A.B. Bowden of Lepanto, grandmother Mrs. F.A. Lauderdale of El Dorado, 2 aunts, Misses Gertrude and Ruby Foreman of New York City; Woodlawn cemetery in El Dorado.

BRACKETT, Charles - 3 Dec 1937-p8 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 58yrs; (article is torn) self-inflicted gun shot; survived by wife and 5 children; body shipped to Batesville.

BULLARD, Ernestine - 5 Nov 1937-p5 [LNR-1] age 2yrs; died at home of parents, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Bullard of the Frazier community of malaria.

CASADAY, Media Mrs. - 22 Oct 1937-p12 [LNR-1] age 38yrs; of Harrisburg Corner, formerly of Lepanto died at her home last week; wife of T.J. Casaday; Garden Point Cemetery.

COWIN, Jessie - 17 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] funeral at Searcy; attended by niece Mrs. W.C. Nowlin and her daughter Mrs. W.D. Henderson.

DEGROW, John - 17 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 31yrs formerly of Lepanto; died Sat when the truck he was riding in collided with another truck; survived by wife Evie, 3 children Ozelle, Jack and Katherine of near Marked Tree, father, S.J. Degraw, 3 brothers, Charles of Lepanto, Bill and Elmer of near Marked Tree, 3 small half-brothers, 3 sisters, Mrs. Smith of Al and Misses Leone and Louise Degraw; services in Iuka MS.

FRENCH, Homer - 12 Nov 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 46yrs of near Lepanto died Fri at Memphis hospital of cerebral hemorrhage; survived by wife and 5 children; Garden Point Cemetery.

GATLIN, Auda Mrs. - 5 Nov 1937-p5 [LNR-1] age 49yrs; died at her home near Rivervale Sun; survived by daughter Mrs. R.A. Anderson and several grandchildren; Potter’s Cemetery.

HADEN, Pattye Sue Miss - 3 Sep1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 17yrs; died of injuries in auto accident; daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Eurey Haden of Jonesboro.

HAMMOCK, Tom B. - 15 Oct 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 74yrs; farmer of Etowah killed by hit and run driver Sat; survived by several children among whom are his daughter, Mrs. Connie Parish of Etowah and Bob Hammock of the Hatcher neighborhood; buried at Little White Sulphur Springs TN. HODGES, infant - 15 Oct 1937-p4 [LNR-1] age 13mo died of colitis; buried Wed at Judsonia their former home; daughter of Mrs. Veona Hodges.

HUDGINS, Charles McKinley - 17 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 12yrs; was killed instantly on Sat when the truck he was riding in collided with another truck; buried at Ravenden Springs.

HULSEY, Pleas “Buddy” - 5 Nov 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 17 of West Ridge died of injuries when struck on the head with a bottle by John Cooner age 21 also of West Ridge; the 2 were distant cousins by marriage; survived by parents, Mr. & Mrs. Solon Hulsey and the following siblings at West Ridge, Mrs. Irene Hall, Mrs. Willie Lawson, Lonnell Hulsey, Robert Hulsey, Junior Hulsey, Lee Hulsey and Ernest Hulsey; Garden Point Cemetery; Conner is being held at the Osceola jail.

JACKSON, Andrew Stonewall - 10 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 59yrs of Etowah, died in Jonesboro hospital; came to this section from Wayne Co. TN nearly 40yrs ago; survived by son Grover, 2 brothers, A.C. and G.C. both of Etowah, 2 sisters, Mrs. Florence Sceidmore of Safety Harbor FL and Mrs. Alice Kitchens of Hollywood MO and Bennie Jackson a nephew who he reared; pallbearers named; Garden Point Cemetery.

JACKSON, R.A. - 10 Dec 1937-p5 [LNR-1] age 50yrs of Whitton died last week in Tulsa OK; on a business trip; survived by wife Nettie, 2 daughters, Jennie Mae and Wilma; 3 sons, Robert, John and J.P.; Mrs. Jackson is sister of E.M. Calvert of Marked Tree; Whitton Cemetery.

KING, Margaret Louise Miss - 5 Nov 1937-p5 [LNR-1] age 19yrs; died at home of parents, Mrs. Riley King of Lepanto on Tue of peritonitis; also survived by 2 sisters, Rebecca of Lepanto and Mrs. Thelma Roberts of St. Louis, City Cemetery.

MARTIN, Shirley Glenn - 22 Oct 1937-p12 Stillman News [LNR-1] daughter of Mrs. Shelby Martin; burial at Spear Lake Cemetery on Mon.

MORRIS, Mary "Ole Aunt" - 31 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 80yrs; "colored character around Lepanto, child slave and one time chamber maid on steamboats; came to Lepanto in 1916; she said she was 80 but her colored folks said that 90 "wuz just 'bout right."

PEEPERS, A.V. Mrs. - 12 Nov 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 88yrs died at home of her son, C.C. Peepers near Lepanto on 9 Nov; survived by 3 children; Mrs. D. Stokes of Louisville MS, Mrs. W.G. Quinn of Noxapater MS and her son; Noxapater Cemetery.

PRESLEY, Coy - 29 Oct 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 21 of Harrisburg; was killed in head on collision Sun; died at Jonesboro hospital; funeral at Harrisburg.

RENSHAW, Charles - 29 Oct 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 54yrs; farmer of Harrisburg; died Mon at St. Bernard's Hospital of injuries received when he was hit by a Ford V-8; survived by wife, 2 sons, John of Marvell and Thomas, brother T.F. and 2 sisters, Mrs. L.H. Ford and Mrs. Carrie Reeves all of Harrisburg; burial at Harrisburg cemetery.

SHELTON, Guy - 12 Nov 1937-p4 [LNR-1] age 46yrs of Jonesboro, died at St. Bernard's Hospital Sat from self inflicted bullet wound; born near Trenton TN; resident of Jonesboro for 20yrs; survived by wife, 3 sons, Sanford, Richard and Billy and daughter Helen.

SIMS, Charles Irvin Jr. - 22 Oct 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 6yrs; was killed when he darted out from behind a parked car into the path of an oncoming car; son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Irvin Sims Sr. of Bowman; services were held at Bowman.

SMITH, J.H. - 15 Oct 1937-p5 [LNR-1] age 67yrs; died Mon at his home in Jericho; native of Mayfield KY; survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Nat G. Terry of Clinton IN and Mrs. Sidney Mothershed of Sardis MS, son, J.H. of Como MS; burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pleasant Grove MS.

SNODGRASS, Morton - 26 Nov 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 47yrs of near Harrisburg, killed instantly north of Weiner Sat when struck by car; survived by wife and several children; Harrisburg cemetery.

SPLAWN, Jack - 10 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] bookkeeper for Dyess Colony was killed in auto accident; services were held at Dermot his home.

STRAWBRIDGE, J.S. - 10 Dec 1937-p4 [LNR-1] age 71yrs; semi-invalid died of severe burns at home near Tyronza when he knocked over a lamp; Whitton Cemetery.

SUMPTER, Clay - 29 Oct 1937-p1 [LNR-1] of Lepanto; critically injured in head on collision; treated at Jonesboro; sent to Memphis hospital where there is little hope for recovery; son of Mr. & Mrs. W.H. Sumpter of Lepanto. TAYLOR, Sarah Mrs. - 5 Nov 1937-p5 [LNR-1] age 91yrs; of Lepanto formerly of Trumann; survived by granddaughter, in Trumann; George DeHoff Church of Christ minister officiated.

TERRELL, infant - 5 Nov 1937-p8 Frazier News [LNR-1] daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lester Terrell; funeral at Wilson; Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Terrell and Mr. & Mrs. Tillie Terrell attended.

TWIST, Ira F. - 15 Oct 1937-p3 [LNR-1] age 80yrs; died at Twist last Tue.

WHEELER, Rexford Vinal - 10 Sep 1937-p4 [LNR-1] age 50yrs; of Marion died of heart ailment Tue; survived by mother Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Wheele3r of Jonesboro is seriously ill at Jonesboro hospital; also survived by wife, daughter Mary Berry Wheeler of Marion, son Ensign R.V. Wheeler Jr. of the USS Vincennes stationed at Boston.

WILSON, Flo Cowin Mrs. - undated sheets at beginning of roll, preceding 3 Sep 1937 (possibly Vol. 1, No. 1) [LNR-1] age 30yrs; pneumonia following surgery; funeral services at Searcy on Mon; survived by husband Hugh Wilson of Lula MS, parents Mr. & Mrs. Jess Cowin of Searcy, a sister, Mrs. Fern Rogers of Searcy and a young brother.

WOLF, Mary E. Mrs. -3 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 81yrs; of near Lepanto died Wed at home of grandson Virgil Wolf a short distance away; came from Coydon IN; her great granddaughter Mildred Louise Wolf, age 5mo also died; survived by 2 sons, Jess Wolf of Lepanto and James Wolf of Maryville MS, 3 daughters Mrs. Ida Warner, Mrs. Dora Baxley and Mrs. Mary Robb all of Lepanto; buried beside the great granddaughter in Lepanto City Cemetery.

WOLF, Mildred Louise - 3 Dec 1937-p1 [LNR-1] age 5mo; daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jeff Wolf of near Lepanto died after her great grandmother, Mary E. Wolf died on Wed; survived by parents and brother, Jesse Franklin Wolf; Mildred and Mary were buried side by side at Lepanto City Cemetery on Thanksgiving day.
