William Baker, 71, 168 Sneed St., Marked Tree, died Sunday (2-20-2000) at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was a retired farmer. Born March 6, 1928 in McNairy Co., TN. Preceding him in death were one son, his mother and father, one brother, two sisters and one great-grandchild. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Drager of Houston, TX, Linda Allison of Marked Tree and Deena Brodell of Jonesboro; four sisters, Louise Victory, Bernice Blann and Shirley Brownlee, all of Memphis, and Lillie May Piercy of Monette; one brother, Jerry Wayne Baker of Williford; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 at Murphy Funeral Home chapel in Marked Tree, with William Piercy officiating. Burial will follow in Marked Tree Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Freeman, Bobo York, Gary Ryan, Leo Ryan, Jeff Flippo and David Wayne Baker.

Barker, Euvene

Mrs. Euvene Barker, 61, of Jonesboro, died Thursday (1-13-2000) at Rose Care Center in Jonesboro. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief. She had lived in Trumann for most of her life before moving to Jonesboro three years ago. Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Pierce of Brookland; four brothers, Fred Barker and Monzo Barker, both of Trumann, Bobby Barker of Hot Springs and Harold Barker of Bay; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one grandson. Graveside services will be Saturday afternoon at 2 at Keller's Chapel Cemetery. Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 1 until 2 at Keller's Chapel Cemetery.

Barker, John Darren

John Darren Barker, 32, of Harrisburg, died Tuesday (3-14-2000) at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center. Born in Newport, he was a tree trimmer for Asplundh Tree Service. He attended the First Assembly of God in Harrisburg. Survivors include his wife, Janice Barker of the home; one daughter, Tosha Barker of the home; his father and stepmother, Jimmy Don and Susan Barker of Fisher; his mother and stepfather, Nancy and Danny Kemp of Harrisburg; two brothers, Cary Barker of Wynne and Joshua Barker of Fisher; two stepbrothers, Gary Kemp and Charles Kemp, both of Trumann; one sister, Pamela Barker of Harrisburg, and his grandmothers, Bertha Anschultz of Fisher and Margie Barker of McCrory. Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 10 at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home, with Jim Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Fisher Cemetery. Barnes, Joseph Edward

Joseph Edward "Joey" Barnes, 39, of 141 Jennifer St., Trumann, died Tuesday (3-14-2000) at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center. He was a tool setter for Parker Hanifin Corp. in Trumann and was of the Pentecostal belief. Mr. Barnes was born July 8, 1960 and lived most of his live in Trumann, he lived in Indiana before returning to Trumann. He was preceded in death by his father, Elic Edward "Ed" Barnes in 1991. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lisa Davis Barnes of the home; five daughters, Brdgett Harvey of Jonesboro, Crystal Berry of Lowery, Brandy Hervey of the home, Stacy Hargrove of Lepanto and Misty Barnes of Marion; two sons, Timmy Hervey of Trumann and Joseph C. Barnes of Marion; his mother and stepfather, Betty and Clyde Graves of Osceola, IN; two sisters, Sherry LaPiro and Beverly Clem, both of Trumann; one stepsister, Donna Maggart of Osceola, IN; two stepbrothers, Clyde Graves Jr. of Elkhart, IN and Timmy Graves of Osceola, IN; his grandmother, Mary Barnes of Trumann; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann, with Steve Singleton officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Harrisburg. Donnie Battles, Keith Heckman, DeWayne Pierce, Edward Pierce, Jimmy Pierce and Terry Dale Rasdon will serve as pallbearers. Barnhill, Ruby Fay (Oldman)

Mrs. Ruby Fay Barnhill, 46, of Marked Tree, formerly of Harrisburg, died Thursday night in St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born in Marked Tree, was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal belief. She was preceded in death by her parents, two half brothers and a sister. Surviving are one son, Kenny Barnhill of the home; one brother, Johnny Oldman of Bay; a half brother, Bill Wilson of Mississippi; four sisters, Glenda Oliver of Dowagiac, MI, Brenda Cantrell of Harrisburg, Tammy Oldman of Harrisburg and Carolyn Cleveland of Gainesville, FL. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 in the chapel of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home, with Rev. Glen Cox officiating. Burial will be in the Holly Springs Cemetery near Harrisburg. Active pallbearers will include Cecil Wright, John Willis, Bobby Willis, Mark Oldman, Chris Tacker and Charles Cantrell. Ricky Dunn and Chris Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Bass, Rev. Fred Ted

Rev. Fred Ted Bass, 76 of Trumann AR, born March 4,1911 departed this life October 29, 1987 at Methodist Hospital in Jonesboro AR. Rev Bass was born in Arkansas and had lived in the Trumann area since 1935. He was a retired farmer and minister and a member of the Rising sun Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Mable Denwood Bass of the home, five sons, Maynard Lee Bass, R. B Bass, Lorenzo Bass, Fred Bass Jr. Elijah Bass all of Omaha Neb. Three daughters Mrs. Addie Washington of Benton Harbor, Mich., Mrs. Dellie Johnson of south Bend, Ind. and Mrs. Doris Prunty of Trumann AR. One brother Curtis Bass of Little Rock AR, and One sister Mrs. Derotha Williams of Omaha, Neb. 51 grandchildren and a host of great grand children. Funeral Services will be Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Judd Hill, AR with Rev. J.I. Wells officiating. Burial will be at the Judd Hill Cemetery, Judd Hill AR.

Beeson, Herman H.

Herman H. Beeson, 89, of Harrisburg, died Monday evening at his residence. Born at Ozark, he was a retired carpenter and a member of the Harrisburg Church of Christ where he had served as an elder for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Bernice McDaniel Beeson of the home; six sons, Jan Beeson and Mike Beeson, both of Jonesboro, Carroll Beeson of Bentonville, Bill Beeson of Nashville, TN, Darrell Beeson of Terry, MS, and Gary Beeson of Mountain Home; one daughter, Sharon Pugh of New Martinsville, WVA; one sister, Addie Harris of Ft. Smith; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be at 2 Thursday afternoon at the Harrisburg Church of Christ with Bill Willard, Bob McDoniel and Charles Pugh III officiating. Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Lue Beard, 90, of Lepanto, who died Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Osceola, will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at First Baptist Church in Lepanto, with the Rev. Larry Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Rest Cemetery at Lepanto, under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Tyronza. Born Feb. 20, 1910, in Aberdeen, MS., she was a maid and a member of First Baptist Church in Lepanto and the Mother Board. Survivors include one daughter, Matra Estes of Trumann; three sons, Leroy Beard of San Diego, CA, Curley Beard Jr. of Lepanto, and Willie Beard of Detroit, MI; one sister, Mary Loyd of Lepanto; 20 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curley Beard Sr.

Beck, Anna Inez

Anna Inez Beck was born November 2, 1911 in Webster County, Mississippi. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She moved to Arkansas in 1942. She was married to the late Ferdy Beck. One son Willie preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Robert Bell; two sisters, Jewel Parks of Memphis, Tennessee, Novella Conley of Chicago, Illinois; five grandchildren, dear friends Bertha Mason, Booker Childs of Trumann, Arkansas and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Frank A. Bell Sr., 84, of West Memphis, died Friday at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis. A member of the United Methodist church, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a member of the American Legion and the Rotary Club. He was a Mason and a Shriner and a retired farmer and cotton ginner in Lepanto and Harlingen, TX. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Lorine Portis Bell of West Memphis; two daughters, Melissa Bell of Memphis, TN, and Nina Folliott of San Benito, TX; a son, Frank A. Bell Jr. of West Memphis; two sisters, Beatrice Prewitt of Winona, MS, and Sarah McCool of Kosciusko, MS; and three grandchildren. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 Monday afternoon at First United Methodist Church in Lepanto, with Steve Wiseman officiating. Burial will follow at Potter Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home of Lepanto. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 Sunday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Lucy Bell, 82, of 114 Hines Circle, Marked Tree, died Friday at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Shelby, MS, she had lived in Marked Tree for 25 years after relocating there from Tyronza. A homemaker, she was a member of Mt. Pisby Missionary Baptist Church of Joiner. Survivors include two brothers, William Bell Jr. of Santa Ana, CA, and Larrie Bell Sr. of Blytheville; and five sisters, Julia Johnson, Maggie Bell and Matilda Carter, all of Chicago, IL, Jean Sewell of Memphis and Scarlett Walls of West Memphis. Funeral services will be held at 1 Friday afternoon at Mt. Pisby Missionary Baptist Church in Joiner, with Rev. Larry Bell officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Steel Bridge Cemetery in Tyronza, under the direction of Sims-Woodard Funeral Service of Marked Tree. Survivors include her husband, Elton Bellinger of the home; three daughters, Lisa Mills of Savannah, GA, Linda Polk of Concord, GA, and Brenda Thompson of Redfield; two brothers, Jessie Paul Coats of Cherry Valley and James M. Coats of Greenbrier, TN; two sisters, Dorothy Monsorno and Mary Thompson, both of Greenbrier, TN; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother. Kelly Leroy Benson, 45, of Harrisburg died Sunday, May 2, at his residence. Born in Harrisburg, he was a lifelong resident of that community. He worked as a machine operator for Poinsett County and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his parents, Leroy and Letty Faye Benson, both of Harrisburg, and his grandmother, Emma Jean Langston of Jonesboro. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, Bobby Russell and Lee Reeves will officiate, and burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Dollie Dimple Benton, 87, of Marion died Tuesday (1-18-2000) at Baptist Hospital Central in Memphis. Formerly of Dyess, she was a member of Dyess Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chelcie Leroy Benton, a daughter, a grandson, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include four daughters, Dimple Young of Hardy, Myrtle McVay of Marion, Patricia Sullins of Fort Smith and Linda Tyner of Memphis; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. A.A. "Lon" Berry Jr., 85, of 1611 Briarcliff, Fayetteville, formerly of Harrisburg, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville after sustaining a heart attack at his home a week earlier. Born in Harrisburg January 30, 1907, he was the last of seven children of the late Dr. Alonzo Alexander Sr., and Flora Maude Stout Berry, early settlers of Cross and Poinsett County. He was a lnad owner and a retired businessman. At the time of his retirement in 1970, he owned and operated an automobile parts store in Harrisburg, where he served the public for fifty years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, a member of Poinsett County Masonic Lodge 184, and a 32nd Degree Mason. An Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of American Legion C.C. Hill Post 14. Berry is survived by his wife, the former Mary Lois Wright of Trumann, to whom he was married in Harrisburg May 14, 1939 by the late Rev. J.J. Decker. The couple lived in Harrisburg util moving to Fayetteville ten years ago. Also surviving are a son, Allen Wright Berry of Sherwood; a daughter, Marilyn Berry McCord of Fayetteville and four grandchildren, Gregory Allen Berry, Emily Marie Berry, Susan Elizabeth McCord and Karen Melissa McCord. The deceased brothers and sisters include Millard Filmore Berry, Allen Berry, Fred Berry, Bessie Conn Griffin, Marie Garvey and Ione Goodman. Funeral services were held at 10:00 Friday morning, July 3 in the chapel of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home with Rev. James D. Harrison officiating. Burial was in Harrisburg Memorial Park. Active pallbearers were David Carson Berry, Donnie "Buzzy" Faulkner, Charles D. Nix, David Freeman, Stanley Brosn, and Sherril Brown. Fred Berry, 79, of 202 West Riverside, Marked Tree, died Saturday morning at his home. A native of Harrisburg, he was a retired Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department employee and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marked Tree. He was born at Bay Village October 20, 1903, and was the son of the late Dr. Alonzo Alexander and Flora Stout Berry. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Zona "Billy" Shelton Berry; one son, Jimmy Shelton Berry of Marked Tree; two sisters Mrs. Marie Garvey and Mrs. Ione Goodman, both of Harrisburg; one brother, A.A. "Lon" Berry of Fayetteville, and one grandson, Davis Carson Berry of Marked Tree. Funeral services were held at the Marked Tree United Methodist Church at 2:00 Monday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. John Jump, officiating. Burial was in Harrisburg Memorial Park. Active pallbearers were Phillip Calvert, Jesse Waskom, Arvil Brown, Stanley Brown, Lawrence Ashlock, Wayne Nichols, Larry Neal and Densel Roy. Mary Lois Wright Berry, 87, passed away at her home in Springdale, Arkanas on Monday, January 19, 2004. Mary Lois was born August 31, 1916 to J. Lee and Emma Wright. She was raised in Trumann, Arkansas as a child and lived in Harrisburg until 1982 when she and her late husband moved Fayetteville to be close to their daughter and her family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Harrisburg then the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg and Trinity United Methodist Church in Fayetteville at the time of her death. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, A.A. "Lon" Berry and her parents, J. Lee and Emma Wright and two brothers Arlen and Bill Wright. Survivors include a son, Allen Wright Berry of Sherwood, a daughter, Marilyn Berry McCord of Fayetteville, a daughter-in-law Cathy Berry, a son-in-law, Jim McCord, four grandchildrend, Greg Berry, Emily Berry Taylor, Susan McCord Clary and Karen McCord, a granddaughter-in-law, Tamera, a grandson-in-law, Joe Allen Taylor, Jr., a great grandson, Joey Taylor, a niece and special friend, Hazel Freeman of Harrisburg, and many other firiends. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother and an outstanding homemaker. Services will be at the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg on Thursday, January 22, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Sullinger officiating. Mrs. Zona "Billye" Shelton Berry, 91, of 202 West Riverside Drive, Marked Tree, died at her home Friday evening, July 18, 1997. Mrs. Berry was the widow of Fred Berry, who died September 3, 1983, and the daughter of the late W.D. "Billy" Shelton, former Poinsett County Sheriff, and the late Eva Neely Shelton. Bron in Marked Tree, January 5, 1906, she had lived in the Marked Tree and Harrisburg area all of her life. She graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1924 and attended Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia. She was of the Methodist belief and was one of the charter members of the Harrisburg Birthday Club that was organized more than 50 years ago. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim Shelton Berry and Melba Moore Berry of Marked Tree; and one grandson, of Yale University in New Haven, CT. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Marked Tree at 2:00 Sunday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. Rex A. Dickey, officiating. Burial was in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home in Marked Tree. Charles Henry Birdno, 87, of Rivervale, died Monday at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center. He was a Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Hays of Batesville; two sons, Charles Boyce Birdno of Cordova, TN., and Charles Jeffery Fine of Lepanto; a sister, Opal Smith of Lepanto; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Charles Alva Bogan, 86, of 1751 West Nettleton, Jonesboro, formerly of Harrisburg and St. Louis, MO; died Tuesday, January 31 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Griffin IN, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Clara Norris Bogan and was reared in Harrisburg. He lived here until moving to St. Louis in August, 1951. He was a retired maintenance employee of Wagner Electric Corporation in St. Louis and was of the Baptist faith. He was a Mason and a member of Poinsett County Lodge 184. His wife, Jewell McCulley Bogan, preceded him in death in 1985. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucy McCulley Mosley of Edgewater, FL and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Henry Bradsher, a retired farmer and a resident of this community during the 83 years of his life, died while enroute to the Jonesboro hospital, January 2nd at 12:45. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church of Trumann, with Rev. Tad Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro, under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Dora Belle Brown, 80, 804 Hurd St., Trumann, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Born Aug. 9, 1919, in Union Co., MS. Survivors include one son, John Brown of Trumann; two brothers, Bill Hutcheson of Trumann and Carlton Hutcheson of Ridgely, TN; and one sister, Mary Sue Davidson of Humboldt, TN; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Friday afternoon at 2 in the chapel of Murphy Funeral Home of Marked Tree, with Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Tyronza Cemetery. Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Dryden Brown, 78, of Coleman, FL, who died Monday (1-3-2000) at her residence, will be this morning at 11 in the chapel of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home, with Rev. Mrs. Brown was a retired bookkeeper and was of the Assembly of God faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Lee Brown, two brothers and three sisters.

Ruth Calvert Brown was born on November 10, 1936 to the late David and Ella Calvert, in Edinburg Mississippi. She moved to Trumann AR at an early age where she accepted Christ. Ruth then moved to Tulot, AR where she was a member of the New Rising Sun Church and also served on the Usher board. The Lord called her home on July 15, 2002. Survivors include her husband Mozell Brown of Truamnn, One daughter Nobia Brown of Davenport Iowa; Three sons Jimmy Ray Thompson and David Thompson of Trumann, Mozell Brown Jr. of Tulot. She also leaves to cherish her loving memory, Two sisters, Juanita Parker of Memphis, TN, Utah Clark of Tampa Florida; One brother Mucie Calvert of Chicago ILL; Three grandchildren; One great-grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Willie Clark Brown Jr., 57, of Lepanto, died Thursday at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Osceola. Born at Yazoo City, MS, he was a factory worker and was a member of the First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in Lepanto. Survivors include his wife, Georgia Brown of Lepanto; two daughters, Gloria Brown and Tammie Brown, both of Lepanto; one son, Harold Brown of Jonesboro; four sisters, Ledora Whittie of Oakland, CA, Helena Howard of Memphis, TN, Annie Buchanan and Doris Stevenson, both of Lepanto; and seven grandchildren. Larry Junior Busby, 49, of Weiner died Thursday (2-24-2000) at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born Oct. 19, 1950, in Trumann to Mitchell and Helen Busby. He was a farmer and had worked at Lloyd Evans Farms for 21 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Busby. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Price Busby of the home; a son, Chris Busby of the home; three daughters, Heather Branyan of Harrisburg, Angela Williams of Weiner and Lori Busby of the home; his father, Mitchell Busby of Marked Tree; one brother, Floyd Busby of Jonesboro; four sisters, Caroline Ward of Jonesboro; Dottie Mullins of Yakima, WA, Norma Fecher of Marked Tree, and Joanne Avery of McCormick; and 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Veronica, Holly, Chadwick, Patrick, Justin, and Zachary Branyan and Jeffrey, Jason and Jody Williams. Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 at Bolivar Cemetery, with Rev. Larry Gene Bogard officiating. Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Arnold Lee Butler, 43, of Trumann, died Saturday at Regional Medical Center of NEA. Mr. Butler was born Oct. 18, 1956, in Peoria, IL and spent most of his life in Trumann. He was employed by Parker Hanifin Corp. in Trumann, had served in the National Guard and was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Trumann. He was preceded in death by one son, Aaron Matthew Butler and by his father, Leon Butler. Survivors include his wife, Karen Bishop Butler, one daughter, Jerika Butler, and two sons, Justin Butler and Jordan Butler, all of the home; his mother, Wilma Louise Tatum of Trumann; two sisters, Debbie Langston and Shelia Baker, both of Jonesboro. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann, with Rev. Kenneth Doke and Rev. Kenneth Green officiating. R.W. Butler, 94, of Harrisburg died Tuesday at Regional Medical Center of NEA in Jonesboro. Born at Bodcaw, he was a businessman and banker and former chairman of the Bank of Harrisburg, Montgomery County Bank of Mt. Ida, the Cleburne County Bank of Heber Springs and the First National Bank of Paris. At the time of his death he was serving as chairman of Lake Hamilton Enterprises, Inc., First Paris Holding Co., Capitol Life and Accident Insurance Co. and Butler Management Corp. He remained active in business throughout his entire life. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Margaret Wood Butler of the home; a son, Jim Tom Butler of Harrisburg; two daughters, Beth Butler Eaton and Patricia A. Butler, both of Little Rock; three brothers, Charles Butler, Jack Butler, and Billy Butler, all of Hope; two sisters, Cleo Bingham and Marjorie Brumfield, both of Texarkana; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 Thursday morning at First Baptist Church in Harrisburg, with Rev. Captain Lovell, Rev. Don Coleman and Harold Majors officiating Burial will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home.
