SAMUEL & VESTA RICE

Samuel Rice was born 1857 and died 1914 and his wife Vesta was born 1868 and died 1938. They are buried at Square Rock Cemetery in Scott County. In the photo above Sam is holding their son Jimmy and Vesta is holding their daughter Freeda. Picture was taken about 1905/06.

The following was found in some genealogy items of the family and has not been verified, but came from the immediate family and is written as found.

Samuel Chester Rice, 2 May 1857 - 26 Sept 1914. Parents: Amedia "Buck" and Emily Taff Rice from Tennessee.

Vesta (or Vasthi, per family Bible) Othella, 14 Dec 1868 - 30 Jan 1938.

Samuel and Vesta married 20 Mar 1884 in Waldron. Were parents of following children:

1) Maudie Lee Rice, 19 Feb 1885 - 7 Jan 1980. She married W.O. "Oll" Harrison (1/11/1883 - 4/23/1962).
2) Chester Arthur Rice, 9 Aug 1886 - 26 Mar 1979. He married Mittee Florence Gentry (4/23/1892 - 12/7/1961).
3) Gertie Ann Rice, 31 July 1888 - 14 Sept 1972. She married Wyatt E. Lee (10/26/1885 - 11/19/1956).
4) Bertha Mae Rice, 6 May 1890 - 26 Sept 1974. Never married.
5) Worth Samuel Rice, 23 Oct 1891 - 1 Mar 1976. He married Med Jones (11/26/1891 - 9/30/1974).
6) Ethel Lavada Rice, 21 Sept 1893 - 29 Apr 1970. She married Hilward Harrison (6/22/1897 - 6/10/1937).
7) Zella Mathel Rice, 3 Sept 1895 - 24 Feb 1975. She married Floyd E. Lee (1/31/1893 - 1/3/1978).
8) Winston Vern "Pete" or "Jake" Rice, 21 Feb 1898 - 2 Sept 1996. He married Thelma Davis (12/8/1897 - 1/17/1988).
9) Effie Rice, 2 Oct 1899 - 10 Dec 1899.
10) Freeda Delpha Rice, 28 Sept 1900 - 4 Feb 1971. She married Clyde Davis (8/24/1896 - 2/1/1982).
11) Claude Theodore "Jimmy" Rice, 6 Aug 1902 - 6 Nov 1993. He married Hazel Taff (9/25/1906 - 24 May 2003.
12) Estella Ellefaire Rice, 8 June 1904 - 3 Nov 1977. She never married.
13) Alton Columbus Rice, 31 Oct 1907 - 7 May 1967. He married Wanda Roach (3/23/1911 - 8/25/1970).
14) Grady Marion Rice, 1 June 1911 - 29 Mar 1959. He married Daisy Frazier (6/26/1915 - 7 Sept 2006).
