Jesse Wayne Anthony was born June 30, 1920 at Bill Johnson, Sebastian, Arkansas to James Calvin & Charlotte "Lottie" Palestine Blackburn Anthony. December 3, 1949 Jesse, being a resident of Mansfield, Sebastian Co., Ar. married Jean Granger of Lavaca, Sebastian Co, Ar.

July 1, 1941 Jesse registered for the military draft at Hartford, Sebastian Co., Ar. September 18, 1941 he eenlisted with the US Coast Guard. He served with them until June 9, 1946.

Jesse Wayne Anthony passed away November 2, 1999 at fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. His burial was in Liberty Cemetery at Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Jesse Wayne Anthony, 79, of Fort Smith, Arkansas departed this earth to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, November 2, 1999. at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Calvin and Lottie Anthony of Mansfield, Arkansas; his sister, Bertha Tyson of Mansfield; three brothers, Raymond and Everett of Oklahoma city and Luther of Phoenix, Arizona.

He is survived by his beloved wife, a godchild, his sister and her husband, his sister-in-law and husband, Fannie Lou and sister-in-law Sherma, and sister-in-law Mary Ann and Brother-in-law Charles, and numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

Wayne attended high school in Mansfield and quit to join the U.S. Coast Guard before World War II began. He was so proud of his five years of service with the U.S. Navy. He spent 21 days in Buffalo, NY., Marine Hospital, transferred to the Pacific and ran with Task Force 58 from New Guinea to Luzon. Later he island-hopped all the way from New Guinea to Okinawa. He served as deck officer aboard a troop transport and was eligible for 22 service ribbons.

After service, he attended Arkansas Tech and the University of Arkansas, where he graduated Magna cum Laude. He later completed his master's degree from the University of Arkansas and completed most of his work toward his Doctorate, which included studies at Arizona State University and St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.

He taught science in several area schools before joining the Science Department at Westark-Community College. He taught classes for University of Arkansas while at Westark. He retired from Westark-community College.

He had many interests- antique collecting, bird watching, feeding animals and his faithful dog, SAM. He loved mowing with is tractor. He had a sense of humor and loved studying his Bible. He was a member of the Baptist Church and had a strong Christian faith, whch guided his daily living. He was a loving husband and friend and will forever be missed and cherished.

Funeral services was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 1999, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Burial was held at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood. Arrangements were under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
