Hello Ashley County researchers, my name is Karen De Groote and I am a member of the ARGenWeb family in Ashley County.  Although I do not live in Arkansas, I have a keen interest in the history and genealogy of Ashley county and ties to her pioneers. Thank you goes out to Rose Hunt, prior county coordinator for her service.  Rose descends from Ashley county pioneers and will always be a part of the Ashley county genealogy interest.

Please feel free to contact me with questions and submissions, it is with your help that the Ashley county history and genealogy will grow.

Ashley County was formed November 30, 1848 and was organized from Chicot, Union and Drew Counties. Hamburg is the county seat. It wasn't until 1861 that the final county lines were solidified so you may need to search for your people in Drew or other surrounding areas.  Ashley County is named for Chester Ashley (1790-1848). You can check out Jim Shell's Evolution of Ashley County for historical maps of the county through the years.
