SENIOR GIRLS' ATHLETICS

     THE LAKESIDE SQUAWS PLAYED EXCEPTIONALLY WELL THIS YEAR. THE LINEUP WAS AS FOLLOWS:
L. McCULLAR, CATCHER; E. ELLINGTON, FIRST BASE; M. HOYER, SECOND BASE; J. BATEY, THIRD BASE; M. GWYN, SHORTSTOP; B. BOLING, INFIELDER; B. FAIRCHILD, LEFT FIELDER; M.A. McDONALD, CENTER FIELD AND L. CUNNINGHAM, RIGHT FIELD.

     RESULTS WERE LAKESIDE 19, WALCOTT 5; GREENE COUNTY HIGH 4, LAKESIDE 8, LAFE 1, LAKESIDE 10; DELAPLAINE 5, LAKESIDE 3; ALEXANDER 19, LAKESIDE 12; OAK GROVE 9, LAKESIDE 4; LAKESIDE 9, BEECH GROVE 7.

     A TOTAL OF 65 RUNS WERE SCORED FOR LAKESIDE.    

L. McCULLAR, B. BOLING, B. FAIRCHILD AND M.A. McDONALD WERE HIGH SCORERS.
 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

     AFTER SCHOOL OPENED THE GIRLS STARTED PLAYING BASKETBALL ELECTING MISS MARY ALICE SWINDEL AS COACH AND LOUISE McCULLAR AS CAPTAIN OF THE TEAM. PLAYERS WERE:

FORWARD, LOUISE McCULLAR, EVELYN ELLINGTON, MERRIETTA GWYN; GUARDS, ROMA FAYE BAZZELL, GLENAVIE SHATLEY, VIOLA McCULLAR. SUBSTITUTES WERE: FORWARD, LETRENA CUNNINGHAM, MAYO PIGUE, MARCELLA HOYER, DOROTHY AUSTIN, GLADYS HARRIS; GUARDS, VERNA JACKMAN, JUAVAGHN BATEY.

     THEY PLAYED THEIR FIRST GAME IN OAD GROVE TOURNAMENT. THE TEAM PLAYED A GOOD GAME, ALTHOUGH THEY WERE DEFEATED. THE GIRLS ALSO PLAYED IN THE PARAGOULD HIGH SCHOOL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT JANUARY 9, 10, AND 11.

     TEAMS PLAYED WERE: STANFORD, GREENE COUNTY HIGH, RECTOR, CHILDRESS CHAPEL, BEECH GROVE AND WALCOTT. THE TEAM WAS VICTORIOUS OVER WALCOTT.
