"Done some awful hard work. Rolled the rocks down to the bottom and there was a
rock wall around the yard and down in the field. Dug boulders out of the dirt.
The ground was as black as this bible. Planted something to eat around the
stumps in the field and yard. Got some blackberries, peaches and apples, had all
kinds of vegetables and corn for their own use. Cotton 3' high, big bolls. He
paid my mother to pick cotton for him. He would take the cotton bale to Hot
Springs, gone two nights. Walked to the Wenzigs. There was a trail way over the
mountain from Alamo, came back north, past the Scutter's. Scutter use to be a
fiddler. The trail from the mountain came out at the barn. Deer used it. Got
scared going through the mountains on the deer trails. The barn and house were
made of boards not logs. A small cabin like outfit with a kitchen in the corner.
The grave looks extra long. He was taller than his boy, the boy found his daddy
dead. His son and somebody who lived in the area buried him. Buried about a week
when they had the grave side funeral. That was they way he wanted it. There was
a picket fence around the grave later." Source: Mrs
Samantha Fryar b. 1902. Her parents where Samuel Hosea Mullings and Mary Susan
Kinsey. They had daughters Mantha and Myrtle and Leona. Mantha (Samantha)
married Iley Pettitt on April 22, 1922 in Montgomery Co. and later a Fryar. From

Dick Whittington Sept. 13, 1984 Mt. Ida. Samantha attend the graveside
service July 1911. Mr R. Wenzig was 63 years. The property was sold to
Black Springs Lumber Company in 1923.
