Acreage for the Whippoorwill Cemetery and a school/church yard was deeded to the community on March 19, 1906 by James Louis Evans, Sr., of the Whippoorwill community. Later more space was added to the cemetery while the school/church was removed. As times changed, better roads and transportation methods had made school consolidation a feasible means of improving educational opportunities. With dwindling population as farms grew larger, the church followed the school and residents of that area are now involved in activities of the Des Arc community.
