Carter, James

James "Sonny Boy" Carter, 73, of Fordyce, died July 12, 2000, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 19, 1926, at Rison, a son of the late Victoria Hudson Fletcher.

He was a member of St. John A.M. E. Church. He served for three years in the Army. He was an auto body and fender engineer for many years at Flint, Michigan, before retiring 10 years ago and returning to Fordyce.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Matlock Carter; three children, all of Las Vegas; and one sister, Irene Wendell Lee of Fordyce.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. L.T. Marks officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery at Fordyce by Brown-Williams Funeral Home of Fordyce.

Visitation will from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family will receive visitors at 903 Hayes Street at Fordyce.
