Thurman Hughes, 72, of Sparkman died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. He was born July 4, 1936, in Manning, son of Silvanous and Cora Locke Hughes.

He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he served as an usher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tony Hughes; siblings, Queen Williams; Naomi Wright; Ida Butler; Laura Harrison; Harry Rucks and Lester, Mary, Danley, Genova and Samuel Hughes.

He is survived by his children, Connie Johnson, Warnette Hunter and Barbara Hughes of Milwaukee, Wis.; Larry D. Hughes, Terry L. Hiughes of Sparkman; Dexter Knox of Nashville, Tenn.; Thelton W. Hughes of Arkadelphia and Megan Knox of Euless, Texas; two sisters Liza Russell and Eari Wesley; and one brother, Elbridge John Lock, all of Milwaukee, Wis.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at 10 a.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. J.L. Newborn officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Sparkman, by Williams Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home noon to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., in Macedonia Baptist Church, Sparkman.
