Roberts - I am looking for family information on a Will Roberts who lived in or near Humphrey, AR. (Will could be short for William or some other name) Will was a mailman for several years. Her name was married to Myrtle Howell, originally from Henderson Co., TN. She was born about 1890, believe they were close to the same age. I believe they lived in or close to Humphrey most of their adult life. SLAUGHTER - I would like to contact anyone researching Pleasant SLAUGHTER who was listed in the 1870 census from Barraque, Twsp. He had daughters Mary SLAUGHTER b. 1863 and married Henry CAMPBELL 26 Sept 1881. Martha SLAUGHTER b. 1869, Mathew SLAUGHTER B. 1877, Thomas SLAUGHTER b.1879. Mathew SLAUGHTER married Lula ?? by 1897 and the are listed in the 1900, Census with a son Jesse SLAUGHTER born 1898 (He is listed in the 1920, census Redfield, with a wife Rosa and daughter Ima Jean 8/12). Mathew SLAUGHTER is also listed on the 1910 census Barraque Twsp as a fireman at a Lumber Mill. He has three more children, Roy SLAUGHTER 8 (name might be Leroy) daughter Quilla SLAUGHTER born 1907. By 1920 Mathew SLAUGHTER's address is Redfield and he has another son W.R. SLAUGHTER. I have been researching the SLAUGHTER family for many years. Pleasant's father was Daniel M. GRIFFIN - At 1:00 am on 14 Dec 1862, my gg-uncle, James A. Griffin died in Pine Bluff while in the service of Damron's Co., 18th Texas Cavalry, C.S.A. According to a letter written by an officer to his mother, "To Pine Bluff is forty five miles below little rock on the bank of the river a butiful place whear your Son is buried." The birth date appears on the marriage license of William Henry Brown in 1901. · Family said Ed Brown was originally from Galveston, Texas. · 1890 he reportedly pastored St. Paul AME Church in Morrilton in 1890 (in St. Paul Church History Book) Between 1890-1906 was a presiding Elder of the Ft. Smith District of the A.M.E. Church, lived in Sebastian County · December 7, 1907 died in Arkadelphia, AR. (Death date appears in my grandmother's journal). Can find no information in Sebastian County, Conway County (except the Church), or Arkadelphia. Oral history from a 100 year old aunt in 1996 informed that the Browns worked at a Ward Hotel in Fort Smith, Arkansas when they returned to Arkansas from Texas and that they arrived at Lewisburg on a Ward Steamship Line Riverboat. She also said that William Henry and Frank lived in Lewisburg with the Ward family until they moved to Fort Smith. My grandmother also said they lived in Lewisburg and then Fort Smith. The family thought that he may have been a teacher of some kind because he brought luggage with him that contained books and he was quite literate. My grandmother said she insisted that he cut his long hair (he wore a long pony tail) so he would fit in with the community.. The period between 1869 and 1896 and 1896-1901 is the mystery I'm trying to resolve. FRANK BROWN Born. September 17, 1869, Pine Bluff, AR 1923 ; died in Alma, Arkansas . One of my uncles attended the funeral but we have no funeral program, don't know where he's buried. He supposedly had a son named "Jabo" Brown who may have moved to Kansas City (or not). HALL - Trying to find info on Arthur Lee Hall, my great grandfather. Only thing known about him is he married Mary Rolls, lived in Redfield, AR. I believe he was from VA. They had 2 children, Arthur Lee Norton Hall born in 1885 and Anna or Annie Hall born in 1882. Shipley - I am looking for any information that anyone might have on Joseph Calvin Shipley. Also Jessie Calvin Shipley - Jessie was born in Altimer Jan.27,1895. SMITH, BAYLISS, WATERS, ALCORN, SEYMORE, GASKE, WALKER I am trying to fill in blanks in my family history. From an old family Bible I have verified the Alcorn and Bayliss groups from the 1830's. I am missing info from the period of 1850 to 1880's. The Smith side came from Red Spring N.C. in the 1870's. All the older generations are gone now and with them went the history. Specific names I have are Thomas Bayliss, Ann Elizabeth (Waters-maiden name)(Bayliss until Thomas' death) then Alcorn, Robert Alcorn, William J. Smith. HIGGINS, HICKS - I am searching for information about my great grandmother. Her name was Watie/Wadie? Higgins. She married Andrew David "Andy" Hicks ca 1891-92. Not sure where marriage took place. She died in Arkansas when my grandmother was (7) years old and that places her death at ca 1899 since my grandmother was the oldest child and was born Nov. 1892 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. TUCKER - Does anyone have the Jefferson County Cemetery Census for Curl, Brown, Macedonia or any of the Talladega Township Cemeteries? EVANS - I am searching for relatives of Sarah C. Evans b. 26 Nov 1837 Mississippi d. 15 Dec 1905, Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas. She spent most of her life in the Pine Bluff, Jefferson Co., Arkansas area and is buried at Bellwood Cemetery located in Pine Bluff. Her first husband was a Cottrell but he lived only a few months after their marriage. While filling out an application for a Civil War pension an H. E. Evans b.<Mar 1840> Ala. stated that he knew her husband J. L. Shelby (my great-grandfather) before and after the war. He stated that he had known Sarah for about 50 years. I believe H. Holland - Looking for any relatives of Michael Holland (Mickey). I know that Mickey had a brother named J. J. Mickey was born in 1859 Ohio and died about 1916. At the time it was quite a scandal because he committed suicide and he was Catholic. Many people blamed his death on prohibition because before the law came into effect he was a very successful saloon owner. After prohibition he was financially ruined. HANES, HINES - I'm seeking the final resting place of a confederate soldier who died July 27th 1863 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. This soldier's name was Thomas J. HANES or HINES. He was with his regiment, the 8th Missouri Inf., near Pine Bluff at the time, and there was rumored to be a large "Confederate Hospital facility" in Pine Bluff then. Many of men in the regiment became ill and were sent to the hospital for treatment. Thomas, didn't recover and ultimately died there. He is almost assuridly buried near the hospital. If anyone has any information about where this hospital was, or data about nearby graveyards, I would really like to hear from you, and I'd like to find the grave of my grandfather. It is supposed to be located "25 miles south of Pine Bluff on the road to Warren, AR. at the old home place of Dr. James S/F(?) JONES - according to family tradition. When I first began researching this family, I was told the cemetery was destroyed when a highway (or railroad) was built and the grave markers piled up and probably destroyed. REED - My great grandfather, William Jefferson Reed, aka Jeff Reed or J. W. died between 1894 and 1900 at Tucker's Sawmill that once existed in Jefferson County. My Grandmother Nancy Reed died in Gumwoods Township near there on July 1, 1925. I am hoping that they are buried side by side. The Wilson funeral home had a fire in 1950.
