What make and year is this motor car?

Ford striped his machines of all unnecessary accessories, made only one model, painted it black and put out a cheap automobile which offered just one thing - transportation.

It is probably a very dusty reliable 1923 Ford Model T (colloquially known as the Tin Lizzie) with a typical basic black paint job. 15 million were produced from 1908 through 1927. Folks who live down dirt roads today still appreciate a good rain as it eliminates the dust. The car and roads represented a way out of the area and the same path can carry commerce and convenience and crime and pollution with changing lifestyles. Roads are a doubled edge sword of progress and destruction. Look how the lumbar companies came in in the 1920s and stripped the natural resources. In an era of dirt roads the Tin Lizzie was inexpensive to operate, right in mechanical principle and practice, light, that it might be economical, simple in construction, low price to purchase, that it might not be a thing of luxury, but of common necessity. The wheels were steel spoked wooden artillery carriage wheels and the tires were pneumatic rubber. Vanadium steel was added and a general simplification of chassis design. All unnecessary parts were rejected, and only essentials maintained. Thus in 1908 the Ford model T was evolved. The model T was an instantaneous success. The assembly line cut the time of assembling by nearly 90%. The output, was doubling year by year.  In 1913 the average number of cars produced at the Ford factory a working day  was 1000, by 1918 3,000 per day and employing 41,000 at the factory. Ford was able to bring the price of the car below $500, and this reduction in turn stimulated further sales. Henry Ford, a poor mechanic with a brain, was one of the first to see the advantages of such concentration in the use of special machinery for the accurate performance of the different operations in the manufacture of the car. Such machinery is not only very much more expeditious in its work, but far more exact than the best workman. It was simple and easy to replace any parts in the Ford model T, or even to rebuild the entire chassis.  "Made good." Specifications -
Wheelbase: 99 inches
Weight: 1,200 lbs
HP: 20.2 horse-power, four-cylinder engine
Fuel economy: 13-21 mpg
Gas tank: 10.5 gallons, could run on gasoline or ethanol
Wheels: 30"
Speed: top speed 40-45mph
Base price: Under $500. By 1925, it sold for only $260

HOWTON: I'm looking for information on anyone named Howton. I'm defintely fishing here. My ancesters were named Howton and family legend has it that they moved from around Lee Co. MS to AR.  My grandfather was born in MS in 1885. They are found in the 1900 census in Lamar Co., TX.  My grandfather's older brother, Jack, married in Arkansas and had several kids. The wife and all of the kids but 2 died of a mysterious disease before they made it to Lamar Co.. One of those kids died between the 1900 census and the 1910 census.  I noticed on Ancestry.com that there is a Howton cemetary in Montgomery Co. listed, so I thought I'd ask.

EWING: Please help! I would like to contact Linda Warner who submitted article on John Ewing (who is our common ancestor) for Montgomery County: Our Heritage, Vol. 1.  She is my only chance for contact about this family and wording in final paragraph of article led me to believe that she lived in AR. Would appreciate any help with this.  I know there were several Nancy Hulsey's in Arkansas about the same time frame.  Difficult to know which is which.  Would appreciate any help with this.

The Waggoner Cemetery which is located in the S.E. part of the county near Fancy Hill and a Joshua and Eliza Shields are listed.

ROWLAND, SUTTON, WILLIAMS, WILSON, CEARLEY
I am looking for information about the Suttons, Williams, and Wilsons, as I have little information about them.  I have a lot about Nicholas Jeremiah "Nick" Rowland and his wife Sarah Lucinda "Lue" Rowland, as they were my grandparents.  Lue's brother was James William "Jim" Sutton.  When he died, the family cut off any contact with his wife, Florence.  Does anybody know why and what that was about?  What became of her? Who was Florence before she married Jim?  I would like to hear from anyone kin to or having information about Dennis Phillips and his wife Rosia (Brown) Phillips.  Does anybody know anything about  Elisha Stewart Cearley and his wife Mary Ellen "Polly" Cearley?  They're my grandfather's sister and brother-in-law.  Where are any of the Cearleys?  What caused their split-up from the rest of the family?  Was it because of their prosperity?  The Wilsons and the Williams, I am related to by 2 or 3 generations further back.  I especially would like to hear from any of Hiram Daniel Rowland's grandchildren, who might still be in the area.  (Freeman was their father.)  Basically, I would like any information about any of my ancestors and would love to hear from anyone with info.   I've been told that I'm practically kin to everyone in Montgomery County, so I'm hoping to hear from you and I'll try to help you if I possibly can.  Thanks!

ROBERTSON - I am interested in researching the ROBERTSON family history.   My gr gr grandfather was Fate Robertson. My grandmother shortly before her death told me his name was actually Lafayette. My gr grandfather, his son, was Dave Robertson. My grandfather, Johnny Frank Robertson.  Anyone with info please email. I  was also told by older residents in Mont. Co that Fate wrote and published a small book titled "A WILDCATTER'S CONFESSION" .  Anyone with knowledge of where I could find a copy of the booklet, please let me know.

Tom Dillard in August 2009 donated the book to the Heritage House Museum in Mt. Ida. Written by E.L. "Fate" Robertson, who at one time lived in the Story community, A Wildcatter's Confession and a warning to young men, 25 pages, about illicit distilling, is an account of one man's 59 year career in the whiskey making business (during the late 1800s and early 1900s) in several southern states and his advice to all young men "to stay free from whiskey and its influence." Jim Robertson, a brother, also lived in Storey. Jim was a potter and using clay from a nearby area he made various pieces of pottery and bricks.  A wildcatter is a person who promotes risky or unsound business ventures.

Lafayette Robertson, born Georgia, in 1852, was living in the Cedar Glades Twp in 1900 with his wife Martha, son David "Dave" Robertson b. 1884, Minnie L. b. 1887, Osia, son, b. 1890, dau. Ella E. Savall and her husband Jim and their dau.  Cedar Glades TWP was annexed by Garland County in 1917.

HICKEY:  My grandfather's name was John (JT) Hickey, he met my grandmother in Texas and they later married in Mt. Ida, Arkansas about 1924. My mother Mary Alice Hickey was born in Raton, New Mexico in 1926. We have searched for any information regarding him or his family and have never been successful. My mother never knew her father and never knew anything at all about her paternal ancestors. My mother said he was born in Oden, Arkansas and was raised by an aunt but who really knows! He was said to have died in 1929 as my grandmother received a letter stating he had passed away, there were no details. He was said to be working on a dude ranch as a cowboy and had contracted a (social) disease and because he was afraid of passing it to my grandmother he just left the area and was thought to head back to Arkansas or Texas. If you have any information that may help in locating our family members I would be exceptionally happy! Thanks Darlene.

WHITE/COGBURN/WHISENHUNT - Have obtained new info on my Ark WHITE line. My grt. grt g.m. Luiza/Lizza/Luisa White Cogburn Whisenhunt was born 1854--we had TX, but now have new info of possibly GA (Carrol Co). Her 1st child, Wm. I. Cogburn, ARK 1872, is my grt gf; his father died before his birth and we don't have the 1st name. She then married Adam F. Whisenhunt and they came to TX.

The information just shared with us is that she is descended from Wm. Thomas White, 1806, and I think her father's name was George. The Ark website of Cindy Scott -- has these names & many more; shows Wm. T. and a son Geo.(b.1823, son of Wm. T. & 1st wife Elizabeth Jane Norman per Cindy's database) but does not have Geo's info; also lists Luiza Cogburn White b. 1854 but that info isn't tied into any parents. Wm's brother was David Benjamin, 1805, and this information is also on Cindy's site. They came from Carrol Co, Delta, GA to s.w. Montgomery Co, ARK abt. 1850 although if this is correct they must have visited GA at time of Luiza's birth. This is also where the Cogburns settled 1848. Does anyone know about George's family? or have additional info on these families that they might share clues with us?

COX/CAUTRELL - I am looking for info on Elic (?) C. Cox of Womble, AR and/or Mary Ann Cautrell of Manfred, AR.  They were married 5-22-1908.   Mary Ann's surname is listed erroneously as Cotrell on marriage certificate.   Elic is listed as age 21, Mary Ann (my grandmother) is listed as age 18.   Recorded in Marriage Record Book, Pg. 130, Book E. Marriage certificate on Book X, Pg. 66.  They possibly may have had a daughter, Lottie.  I think marriage was fairly short-lived.  Mary Ann's parents were Bart and Mary Malinda Cautrell (may have been known as Cantrell), who lived in Arkansas.  Mary Ann's siblings were:   William, John, Martha, Molly, Stella, Nancy, George,Thomas (went by Jeff), James, Rachel Gracie, and Jesse.

COGBURN - Looking for father and family of my grt. g.f. Wm. Isiah COGBURN and have found a connection in Montgomery Co we feel might possibly be ours.  Can someone possibly shed more light on this or add clues for us to pursue.

A taped interview w/grt. aunt says Wm. had uncles who came to visit them in TX by the names of Andy and George and her story is that they were running from the law at that time.

We have found a family of Clarke T. Cockburn of Montgomery Co, another spelling for the same name, with children including a George and Andrew as well as a William, which could so likely be a name for our William's father.  With the close proximity of Montgomery to Howard Co. where we found our Wm in 1880 census w/mother, step-father and half-siblings, we tend to grasp once again this could be a connection.

Our Wm.'s father died before his birth of 4/26 1872 (Ark), placing the death between abt. 7/71 up until this date; the great aunt seems to think this may have been an accident involving a horse.  This Clarke T's family was in the Montgomery Co. census in '60, '70, and some of the children also in '80, but not William.

After Wm's father died, his mother Luiza (we also have it spelled Luisa and Lizza on different things) White Cogburn (b. 1854 TX or GA) married Adam F. Whisenhunt, had several more children in Ark, and they then moved to TX; first to Hunt Co, and then settled in Taylor Co.

In looking for an Andy and George COGBURN in Ark, I also found another line with once again children by not only these names but a William again also.  This family, again in Montgomery Co Ark, was from a Henry and Emetine Margaret (Johnston) COGBURN with sons by these names as well as another son Wm. born TN 1851; and again he seems to disappear from the others early on.  This George is actually listed as "Jerry (Little George)" as though Geo. is a nickname, and seems to possibly be known also as "Rooster Cogburn".

Does anyone possibly have information on the above family that might give us more info to help prove or disprove this connection such as info on Clarke's son Wm. and his death?

CAUTRELL/SUTTON -   I am searching for any info on Bart Cautrell and w. Mary Malinda Sutton.  Time frame of approx. 1890-1930.  Their children:  Nancy Cautrell (Sheffield), George Cautrell, Stella Cautrell (Haynie), Gracie Cautrell (Ridens), Jeff Cautrell, Mollie Cautrell (h. unknown-may be Shepherd), Mary Ann (Cox, Jones), and Thomas Jefferson Cautrell.  Mary Ann, my grandmother, was born approx. 1891, and her SS application states she was born in Hot Springs.  I have 2 news articles that may help:  an engagement annoucement of Tommie Jean Cautrell, to marry Mark Perrin Jones 3rd, both of Searcy.  Tommie Jean's parents are Thomas Jefferson Cautrell, and her grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Bart Cautrell of Mount Ida. This picture was taken anywhere from 1950's - 1960's. I have a clipping sent to a paper "Montgomery"?, Mount Ida, Montgomery Co. which shows a picture of pupils of Rock Creek School and shows Nancy, Jeff, Stella, Mollie, and George.  The actual school photo was taken "sometime before 1917".  Nancy sent it in after her marriage to Mr. Sheffield.  Article stated Nancy lived in Mount Ida at the time. Don't have date of article, either, just says 61st Year, Issue 8.  Looks to be printed in the 1960's.   Any info on any of above, especially the "elusive" Bart and Mary, would be greatly appreciated!

COX/CAUTRELL -  I am seeking information on a Elic C. Cox of Womble, Arkansas, Montgomery Co.  He married Mary Ann Cautrell of Manfred, AR, Montgomery County, on 5-22-1908.  His age is 21, and her age is 18. (Her maiden name was misspelled as Cotrell on the marriage certificate).  They may have had a daughter, Lottie.  I believe they were divorced and Mary Ann and Lottie went back to her parents home for a while ( Bart and Malinda Cautrell). Any info on either Mr. Cox, Mary Ann, or Bart and wife would be greatly appreciated.

CAUTRELL/SUTTON -  I am looking for information on: Bart Cautrell, who was married to MaLinda Sutton.  They were the grandparents of Miss Tommie Jean Cautrell, who was engaged to Mark Perrin Jones, Jr. Tommie and Mark lived in Searcy, AR.   Bart and wife had lived in Mt. Ida at the time of the engagement, but were deceased at the time. I don't know the date of the engagement (found a newspaper clipping), but appears to be from 1950+. The article said Tommie Jean attended the University. It stated her Cautrell grandparents were from Mt. Ida. Any info would be greatly appreciated.   Bart and MaLinda are my great-grandparents.

LOVE - Looking for MYSTERY WOMAN Emma LOVE.  ANY information w/ regard to Emma Love would be so helpful.  I have no exact dates except for a guess of late 1800s. Emma LOVE m. William HUBBARD, both from AR.  It is rumored that Emma was Indian as when she died it is told she was taken away on an Indian litter in some small town near Hot Springs.   Emma and William had three children:  Mamie Madeline Hubbard b. 04 Aug 1890 in AR, Rosie Hubbard and a brother I have no name for.   After Mamie's mother Emma LOVE HUBBARD died, the father William could not care for the children and split them up to various relatives.  Mamie was shipped off to Ennis, TX.  If anyone knows of any Montgomery Co., history and stories that could help me find this mystery woman who was my  gr gr gr grandmother would be most appreciated.
