Who Is This?

History of Sebastian County

Created in 1851 from Crawford, Scott and Polk Counties. Sebastian County, located in the Arkansas River Valley, is on the Western edge Arkansas, bordering Oklahoma. There you will find forested ridges, rolling farmlands, mountains and lakes.

Sebastian County was named after William K. Sebastian, a U.S. Senator, and judge.

With only 529 square miles, it is the smallest county in the State but has two county seats.
One  is at Ft. Smith.  The other at Greenwood.
