DUMAS — Superintendent Murphy Walker, 99, of Dumas died Saturday at the Ouachita County Medical Center.


He was born Sept. 10, 1907, at Clarendon, a son of the late Thomas Walker and Mary Etta Oliver Walker.


He was a superintendent in the Church of God in Christ in Arkansas and a member of Walker Temple Church of God in Christ at Fordyce.


He was a retired self-employed carpenter.


Survivors include his wife, Garey T. Newman Walker; nine sons, Superintendent Thomas Walker of Carthage, Elder Mack Walker and Elder Altrue Walker, both of Portland, Ore., Elder Frank Walker of Fordyce, Maurice Terry of Liberal, Kan., Elder Ivanhoe Terry of Moss Bluff, La., Major Terry of Dumas, Ernest Terry of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Clarence Terry of Houston; 13 daughters, Murphy Mae Johnson of St. Louis, Daisy Hayes and Leevonure Brown, both of Portland, Murlinda Suell of Vancouver, Wash., Aretha Danzy of Crossett, Creenella Thrower of Camden, Vera Brazel of Fordyce, Lundell Bell, Nadelyn Berry and Jo Ann Hagood, all of Dumas, Ruby Terry and Doris Terry, both of Alexandria, Va., and Restee Wherry of Sioux Falls; 95 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Walker Temple Church of God in Christ with Elder Hosea Malone officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery at Carthage by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.


A state funeral will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
