THE ELIJAH SAMUEL RUSSELL JR.
CHILDHOOD STORY

Submitted by: Freddie B. Stewart (Freorden@aol.com)

Dividing Line

There are some vague accounts that took place when Elijah Samuel Russell Jr. was just a child. The notes from my mother's recollection say that "Elijah Samuel Sr's. wife Mary Jane, waited about three years after he died, and then she married a gentleman named Gerald McDaniels". (The spelling of Gerald is not known year 2000)

Around 1864 or 1865 Mary Jane (Buckles) Russell, was in her mid twenties and her fatherless son Elijah Samuel Jr. was just three or four.

The children of Mary Jane (Buckle) Russell and Gerald McDaniels:
(It is not known if all of these children were born by Mary Jane) Joseph, Henry, Thomas "Tinker", Andrew, Elizabeth "Liza", Betty

The marriage made Elijah Samuel Jr. a stepson to Gerald McDaniels. There is probably quite a lot missing here that we don't know but my mother was told, that her father Elijah Jr., was not treated very well by Gerald, his stepfather. He left his mother and the McDaniels home sometime around 1874 when he was about thirteen years old. My mother told of his accounts and that he would often boast about the fact that he had been capable of supporting himself, and later, his large family, ever since he was only a child of thirteen years old.
