Marion Co AR Courthouse 20 Aug 1913

Marion County, Arkansas

Court House

Marion County Courthouse: The Marion County courthouse burned in 1887 and there are no existing records prior to that time. In many instances we hear about a courthouse being burned and we find that many of the records actually survived. This is not the case of Marion Co's courthouse. It truly burned to the ground.

The courthouse is located in Yellville, AR, address mail to: Marion County, Courthouse Square, Yellville, AR 72687. Phone: 870-449-6231. Hours are from 8:00-4:30 pm. All vital records are found at Little Rock (Arkansas Vital Records)

County Clerk has marriage, divorce, probate, civil court and land records from 1888 to present.

HORRIFYING THING: One of the saddest and at the same time most horrible and infuriating things I found at the courthouse is that people are simply walking off with records. There isn't any security in the vault and apparently people are stealing record books. The county doesn't have the money or the resources to protect these records from the theft of researchers. There are many courthouses around the county that have had to lock up their records and only bring out one record book at a time for genealogists. No wonder the staff at courthouses hate to see a genealogist walk in the front door. The Historical Society of Marion Co is getting collectively gray headed trying to protect these invaluable resources from the theft of genealogists!

And if you steal a record book may your life be long and may you be miserable the whole time.
