THE TURNBOW MANUSCRIPTS
by Silas Claiborne Turnbow (1844-1925)

Dividing Line

Most of us are familiar with Goodspeed's Histories from our research in other areas. Goodspeed didn't get around to writing a history of Marion Co but we have something even better than Goodspeed (who charged people a fee to mention them in his books) - we have the writings of Silas Turnbo. Turnbo lived in the Marion County area and his writings contain many stories about Marion Co and her people. There are over 300 of Turnbo's stores on-line and searchable

Before you head off to search (and hopefully read) the Turnbo Manuscripts take a minute and read the Real Story of Silas and his writings as told by Juanita Berly, a descendent of Silas.

Lynn Morrow's article Silas Turnbo and His Writings is an excellent article about Turnbo and his stories.

All of Turnbo's stories (all 27 volumes of them) are online at The Turnbo Site. You can browse the indexes to each volume, sample the stories or you can search for a specific name - a surname or a name of a town or county.
