Marion Co, AR
Whiteville Township
Information

Dividing Line

Whiteville Township was created in 1856. No information as to what township(s) it was created from has been found.
This township appeared on only two censuses for Marion Co - the 1860 census with a population of 520 and the 1870 census with a population of 314.
A part of Whiteville was used to create Independence Township in 1862.
On Mar 24, 1873 Baxter County was formed and a part of Marion County was used in the creation of Baxter County. At the time Marion County extended to a line about five miles east of the present site of Mountain Home to what is known as the Barton place on Tracy Ferry. In 1873 Marion County had no representative in the legislature so no objection was filed. Whiteville was one of the townships included in the newly formed Baxter County.

I have been unable to locate a 1860 or 1870 map for Marion County, AR that includes townships.
