Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 6, 2003 issue: Pauline M. YOUNG of Harrison, Arkansas died Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Arkansas. She was 94 years old. Mrs. YOUNG was born April 12, 1909 at Western Grove, Arkansas to James G. and Lurena FOWLER MALLARD. She graduated from Western Grove High School and Arkansas State Teacher's College in Conway. Her eighteen year career as a high school teacher and librarian included six years at Pyatt and twelve years at Western Grove before retiring in 1974. Mrs. YOUNG was a member of the Northside Church of Christ and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's sorority. Survivors include her husband of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, one of Irving, TX, one of Harrison, AR and one of Springfield, MO; daughter and son-in-law of Rogers, AR; and three grandchildren. Visitation was Tuesday, November 4 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Christeson Funeral Home in Harrison. Funeral services were Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Holder Chapel in Western Grove with Brother Jackie CHESNUTT officiating. Burial followed in Western Grove Cemetery with pallbearers. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 6, 2003 issue: Abbie Mae WOLF ESTES, age 93 of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2003. Mrs. ESTES was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Arkansas Education Association, having taught for thirty-four years in the Little Rock Public Schools. She was a graduate of the ASTC College of Education. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo Dowel and Ida Mae CLINE WOLF. She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, a sister of Yellville, Arkansas, a daughter of Little Rock; daughter-in-law of Keo, Arkansas, of Rogers, Arkansas, a son of Sparks, Nevada; grandchildren, one of Lincoln, Nebraska, one of Wilmington, North Carolina, one of Dallas, Texas, and one of Little Rock, Arkansas; eight great grandchildren. Funeral was Wednesday, November 5, 2003 in the Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30 P. M. with interment to follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P. M. at the funeral home (224-8300). Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 13, 2003 issue: James Calvin HAMILTON of Cave City, Arkansas and formerly of Flippin, Arkansas died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was 56 years old. Mr. HAMILTON was born June 18, 1947 at Gassville, Arkansas to Robert Lee and Mildred E. GOODLOE HAMILTON. On May 9, 1971, he married. He resided in Cave City for one year moving from the Flippin and Mountain Home area. He was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Flippin. This man was a unique individual that learned to overcome many obstacles in life. At the early age of 19 he lost his left arm in an automobile accident. Having a father who was a shoe repairman, James learned the trade of shoe repair, then mastered the skill and over the years added building saddles and other leather items. He met wife, they married in May of 1971. They had 3 beautiful daughters: one of Tulsa, OK, one of Cabot, AR and one of Ward, AR. After marrying they spent most of their lives in Oklahoma, where James used his skills to make his family's living and as they did were able to purchase at times 4 different shoe repair shops. Although his professional skill was shoe repair, he was not limited to that type of work. He was a hard worker and didn't slack when it came to a task, whether big or small. Later, at the age of 45, he became a CDL driver. He had moved back to Arkansas with his family so they could be closer to their aging parents. He shared his wide range of skills to help others in need. He helped in the raising of 3 nephews and 1 niece. He loved his family and nine siblings. In 1998, he had kidney failure and did dialysis for 5 years and passed on November 6, 2003 because of heart failure. Now he is at home with the Lord in heaven, and will be greatly missed. June 18, 1947- - -November 6, 2003. Survivors include his wife of Cave City, AR; three daughters, one of Tulsa, OK, one Cabot, AR and one of Ward, AR; a brother of Wichita, KS and a brother of Bull Shoals, AR; a sister of Flippin, AR, two sisters of Mountain Home, AR, one sister of Gassville, AR and one sister of Mountain Home, AR; and nine grandchildren. His parents, Robert Lee and Mildred E. HAMILTON, preceded him in death. Visitation was held Friday, November 7, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Flippin with Reverend Melvin BOOKOUT and Reverend Bill RAWLING officiating. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 13, 2003 issue: Norbert Alvin MEYER of Yellville, Arkansas died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was 68 years old. Mr. MEYER was born June 6, 1935 at East St. Louis, Illinois to Theodore and Alvira WAGNER MEYER. On March 12, 2003, he was married . Formerly of Hudson, Colorado, he had been a resident of Yellville for four years. He was a retired Master Sergeant for the United State Air Force having served for over 20 years during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Following his service with the military, he served as an instructor to Colorado Aero Tech until his retirement. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Yellville. Survivors include her wife of Yellville, AR; sons, one of Guatemala City, Guatemala and one of Yellville, AR; stepsons, one of Fairplay, CO and one of Buena Vista, CO; daughters, one of Glen Rock, WY one of Colorado Springs, CO; stepdaughters, one of Walsenburg, CO and one of Rowlett, TX; brothers,one of Marissa, IL, one of Yellville, AR and one of Alorton, IL; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. His parents, Theodore and Alvira MEYER; sons, Stephen James MEYER and infant Paul MEYER; stepson, Glen JOHNS; daughter, Diane BREWER; and brother, Theodroe MEYER preceded him in death. Visitation was Monday, November 10, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Mass of the Christian burial was Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church with The Reverend Gregory HART officiating. Burial was in the Ft. She was a housewife, lifetime resident of Marion County and a member of Peel Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law of Flippin, AR; a sister of Flippin, AR; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her parents and husband, Bernard RISLEY, preceded her in death. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 27, issue: Dan Ivan DWYER, Jr. of Radford, Virginia and formerly of Yellville, Arkansas died Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at his home in Radford. He was 68 years old. Mr. DWYER was born January 16, 1935 at Wichita, Kansas to Don I. and Ethel Beatrice GILCHRIST DWYER. Mr. DWYER was a math instructor at Radford College. He was a 1953 graduate of Yellville-Summit High School and a graduate of the University of Arkansas. He was involved in the Radford Square Dancing Club. He enjoyed Bridge, Poker, traveling and photography. Survivors include his brother of Yellville, AR; sisters, one of Yellville, AR and one of Lowell, AR; four nieces; three nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. His parents and sister, Lillian, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be Friday, November 28, 2003 at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas with Fred BERRY officiating. LANIER of Mountain Home, Arkansas and formerly of Flippin, Arkansas died Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 79 years old. Mrs. LANIER was a former vice president of the Marion County Nursing Home Board and Auxiliary. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving to cherish her memory are her two sons and daughters-in-law, one of Long Beach CA and one of Mountain Home, AR; and sisters, one of Checotah, OK, one of Bullhead City, AZ, two of Midwest City, OK and two of Oklahoma City, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Daniel C. Lanier. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Yellville. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 20, 2003 issue: Dr. John F. "Jay" TREADWAY, Jr., age 86 of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away in the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville on Friday, November 14, 2003. Dr. TREADWAY was born at Peel, Arkansas on January 10, 1917. He was the son of the late John and Stella (MOTLEY) TREADWAY. Dr. TREADWAY was a retired Professor of Education at Henderson State University. He also served as School Administrator at Yellville-Summit, Flippin and Pyatt schools. Dr. TREADWAY served his country during WWII in the United States Navy where he was an Aviation Ordnanceman, 3rd Class,V-6. He served at Pearl Harbor and Kaneohe Bay on the USS Solace. Dr.. TREADWAY married his wife on January 18, 1940. He is survived by his wife of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his daughter, of Fayetteville, AR; a grandson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and one sister of Sweet Home, Oregon. Mr. TREADWAY was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and W.J. and two sisters, Beulah and Madge. Services were at Burns Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, November 17, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the Keesee Cemetery in Monarch, Arkansas. Visitation was at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas on Sunday, November 16, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm. with Bro. Jack GILLILAND Officiating and Dr. Charles GREEN Serving as Eulogist. "Bob" CHASE of Yellville, Arkansas and formerly of West Plains, Missouri died Friday, November 21, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was 75 years old. Mr. CHASE was born August 19, 1928 in Indiana the son of Lloyd and Louis GENTZEL CHASE. He was a retried truck driver, veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Yellville First Baptist Church. Survivors include his sons, one of West Plains, MO and one of Wisconsin; three daughters, one of Antioch, IL, one of Yellville, AR and one of Roundlake Height, IL; two brothers, one of Arizona and one of Illinois; one sister of Mountain View, MO; and six grandchildren. His parents, and daughter Susan, preceded him in death. Mr. SHANKLE was born June 11, 1936 at Pillowville, Tennessee to Robert L. and Hattie Lee HALL SHANKLE. He was employed as a construction superintendent. He was a member of the Seminary Methodist Church, a 3rd Degree Mason and a member of the Zaman Grotto Lodge in Memphis, TN. He served in the Tennessee Army National Guard. Survivors include his wife of Flippin, AR; one daughter of Memphis, TN, on daughter of Dresden, TN and one daughter of Clinton, TN; sons, one of Ft. Myers, FL and one of Dover TN; sisters, one of McKenize, TN, one of Little Rock, AR and one of Memphis, TN; five grand children; and one great grandchild. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 27, issue: Lonnie Carl "Bud" CUNNINGHAM, the son of William Bernard and Jocie Irene BOYD CUNNINGHAM, was born September 1, 1940, in Rae Valley, Arkansas. He departed this life on Sunday, November 23, 2003, in St. John's Hospital - Lebanon, Missouri, following a courageous battle with lung disease. He was 63. On January 21, 1962, he married Vedora YOUNG. He later shared sixteen years in a second marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children; a brother, Denny CUNNINGHAM; two sisters Mary Bell CUNNINGHAM, and Cleta Mae JEFFERSON; and a brother-in-law, Francis PELTZ. Mr. CUNNINGHAM is survived by a son and his wife of Lebanon, Missouri; two daughters, one and her husband, and another and her fiance', all of Ozark, Missouri; five grandchildren; three brothers, one and his wife of Rogersville, Missouri, one and his wife of Gassville, Arkansas, and one and his wife of Vidalia, Georgia; two sisters, one and her husband of Flippin, Arkansas and one of Ash Grove, Missouri; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at the Holman-Howe Chapel with Reverend Quentin MIDDLETON officiating. Burial followed in the Weaver Cemetery near Ozark, Missouri. Mrs. CAMP died Saturday, November 23, 2003 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Flippin, AR. Hilda Geneva CAMP was born February 23, 1910 in Seattle Washington, the daughter of Charles and Ellen MAHN SANSEN. She was married to the late Donald CAMP. Mrs. CAMP moved to Flippin from Lone Tree, Iowa in 1999 where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lone Tree United Methodist Church in Lone Tree, Iowa. She is survived by one daughter of Flippin, Arkansas; one son of Placerville, California; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and one brother of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers and 6 sisters. Memorials may be made to Bull Shoals United Methodist Church Choir Ministry. Saturday, November 29, 2003 at First Christian Church in Flippin, Arkansas. Mr. ERWIN died Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Twin Lakes Nursing Center. Visitation was from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Flippin. Burial was in the Flippin Cemetery. Mr. ERWIN was born December 18, 1912 at Flippin, Arkansas the son of Ernest and Nancy HUDDLESTON ERWIN. He married Mary CLARK January 25, 1936 at Flippin. Mr. ERWIN, a lifetime resident, was a carpenter in the construction field. He sang with the Jimmy Joe Sasser group since 1936 and with the Marion County Gospel Quartet. He worked for the CCC camps, was an avid two-step dancer and deer hunter. He is survived by two sons, both of Flippin, AR; one daughter of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, both of Flippin, AR; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, two sisters and a son. Memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. VINES was a former employee of Ranger Boat Company at Flippin, AR. He was a member of the Yellville United Pentecostal Church. Survivors include his wife of Yellville, AR; a son and wife of Yellville, AR; a daughter and husband of Summit, AR; his father of Yellville; a brother of Gassville, AR; a sister of Summit, AR; and four grandchildren. His mother, Arlice VINES, preceded him in death. Visitation was held Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Burns Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 30, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Yellville United Pentecostal Church with Sister Betty LYERLY officiating. Cora Avo AUSTIN, of Richland, Washington was born May 1, 1915, to Lula Belle GAINES AUSTIN and John Wesley AUSTIN in Peel, Arkansas. She married Hyrum Vernon CHAPPELLE on December 10, 1936, in Jasper, Arkansas. Avo and Vernon lived in Richland from 1948 until Vernon's death in 1988. She continued to live in the family home until 2001. Due to declining health, she moved to assisted living in Hawthorne Court, Kennewick, Washington, from June 2001 until her hospitalization in November 2003 and her subsequent death in Hospice on November 28, 2003. Our family appreciated the care she received in Hawthorne. We will be forever grateful for her Hospice care. Avo worked in a doctor's office in her youth in Arkansas, for Lockheed Aircraft in the San Fernando Valley of California as a riveter in the war effort, and later at Kadlec Hospital in Richland as a dietician's assistant. She retired from Kadlec in 1973. Vernon and Avo were longstanding members in Richland wards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy WADE; brother, William AUSTIN; son, Howard R. CHAPPELLE and wife Denice; daughter, Vernona Cathryn HODGIN and husband, Don R. HODGIN; granddaughters, Cathy L. ADKISSON and husband Doug, Tami A. TAYAMEN and husband Steven D., Brenda L. BERGSTROM and husband John CALDWELL, Vikki J. BALLEW and husband Robert A., Jennifer B. SCALLEY and husband David, Teri HODGIN-NELSON, and Kelly HODGIN-MCKINNEY. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon; parents, John Wesley and Lula Belle GAINES AUSTIN , and siblings, Eslie SOMMERS, Hazel YOUNG, Leonard AUSTIN and Lester AUSTIN. Our mother was a cultivator. She loved her family, friends, flowers, and nature. She nurtured and was loved in return by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. We will treasure her memory. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 1, 2003, at 9:00 a.m. at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Einan's Funeral Home. A short grave dedication will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens after the funeral service. The family would like you to join them after the service at Shilo Inn in Richland for a reception.
