Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 6, 2006 issue: Ike LINCK, age 86, of Bull Shoals, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2006. Mr. LINCK was born in Flippin, Arkansas on December 12, 1919. He was the son of the late John and Anna MUNCH LINCK. He got married on January 2, 1943. He was a licensed plumber owning Linck Pump Service for many years. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a U.S. Army veteran, member of the Flippin Christian Church, a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Bull Shoals VFW Post # 1341. He is survived by his wife; three sons; one daughter; one sister; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Bill, Matt, Mark, Chris and Mikey and two sisters, Mary and Dora. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at the Flippin Christian Church with Brother Russ Dunham officiating. Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Pallbearers were Mr. JOHNSON, Mr. TURNER, Mr. BELLOTT, Mr. HALL, Mr. JEFFERSON and Mr. COLEMAN. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 6, 2006 issue: Beverly BOOTHE KELLY, 90, long-time resident of Memphis passed away on April 4, 2006 at the Marion County Nursing Home in Yellville, Arkansas. She was born in Batesville, Mississippi, July 31, 1915, but spent most of her early life in Memphis. She attended Central High School, attended Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhoades College) and was a member of the Evergreen Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Junior League and the King's Daughters of Memphis. She leaves behind her loving husband of 68 years. She leaves two devoted sons; a sister; and a brother. She was predecased by a brother, Billy BOOTHE. She leaves six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She was a warm and wonderful person with many good friends in Memphis and around the world. She had a positive impact on everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at the Canale Funeral Home in Memphis, Tenn. And a memorial service will be held at the Evergreen Presbyterian Church on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. She will be buried in the Boothe family plot at Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 13, 2006 issue: A. L. "Slim" PURDOM, 84, of the Dodd City Community died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home Arkansas. He was born on June 8, 1921 to Tom and Mabel (HORTON) PURDOM in Purdom Hollow in the Dodd City Community. He married Geraldine WAGGONER of Dodd City on December 27, 1941. The lived and raised their family there, never leaving Marion County except for brief periods of employment in other areas. As a young man Slim worked in the lead and zinc mines around Dodd City. He and his brother, Floyd, sold crossties to the railroad, cutting oak trees with a crosscut saw and hewing the logs into ties with a broadax. Later, he owned and operated his own saw mill cutting timer in Arkansas, Colorado and Wyoming. He and his wife, Geraldine, raised cattle and hogs, milked cows, raised crops, worked in the harvest, doing whatever it too to fee, provide for and educate their family. Slim loved his family, enjoyed feeding the horses, operating a bulldozer and working. Unable to serve in the Army, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He worked on projects in Arkansas and helped provide labor for the Nations Wheat Harvest traveling as far as North Dakota. He is survived by his three sons and their wives; one sister; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geraldine, three sisters, Corrine TTHOMPSON, Eula SPOHN and Ilene PURDOM, three brothers Jessie, Floyd and Art PURDOM and one grandson, Matt PURDOM. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Keesee Church with burial at Keesee Cemetery. A visitation was held Monday, April 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Pallbearers were present. Honorary Pallbearers also present. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 13, 2006 issue: A memorial service for Dolores SMAKAL, 83, of Lakeview, Arkansas was private. Mrs. SMAKAL died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Baxter Regional Medical Center. She was born March 8, 1923, at Chicago, Illinois, to Louis and Bessie PFRUINDNER MARCUCCI. She married James SMAKAL on October 25, 1941, at Chicago, Illinois. Mrs. SMAKAL was a pharmacist assistant who lived in Lakeview since moving from Berwyn, Illinois, in 1985. She was a former member of Grover Twonship Activities Committee and the Lakeview Community Club. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Surviviors include her two sons and their wives; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother , one sister and a grandson, James. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Roselle, Illinois. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 20, 2006 issue: Richard "R. C." RICHARDSON, age 74, of Yakima, Washington died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at the Garden Village Nursing Home following complications from heart surgery performed on December 2, 2005. R. C. was born in Summit, Arkansas on October 15, 1931 to John and Sinia RICHARDSON. He worked on the railroad and in 1953 met and married his wife in Falls City, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Yakima and R. C. Worked for Marley Orchards and Holtzinger Orchards. In 1973, he began working for Michelsen Packaging Company as a machine operator and worked there until retirement in 1991. Mr. RICHARDSON accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Naches Heights Community Church. Like most of us, he had his struggles with his Christian walk, but loved the Lord with all of his heart and is now in the arms of his loving Heavenly Father. Survivors include his devoted and loving wife; two daughters; five grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 13, 2006 issue: Arikie A. ROSE of Eros went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2006 at the age of 101 years, 6 months 27 days. She was born on September 15, 1904, the daughter of W. C. And Sarah Jane SLAGLEY KELLEY. Arkie was married to Truman ROSE on December 11, 1927. The marriage continued happily for 62 years until Truman's death in 1990. Baptized at a Pentecostal revival in Snow, Arkie was a member of Pyatt Church of Christ. Many Preachers ate with and stayed in the home of Arkie and Truman. Lots of family member will remember good times and great meals they had in her home. The center of Arkie's world, however was her children and grandchildren. She is survived by two sons;, one daughter Phyllis Sue; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends who will miss her. Funeral services will be Friday, April 14, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville with David Watts officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Interment will be at Patton Cemetery, Pallbearers were present. Mr. FUNDERBURG was born February 27, 1965 at San Joaquin, California. He was a farm machinery mechanic and a resident of Marion County for the past 17 years. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 27, 2006 issue: James Morris (Jim) TURNER, age 64, of Flippin, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on April 18, 2006. He is survived by his wife and his constant companion, "Tu"; by his best friend of over 40 years; his daughter; two sons; three grandchildren; his brother and sisters by marriage; his father and mother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Maxine TURNER, and brother Bobby TURNER. Jim was born and raised in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He attended Jonesboro schools. He started his career in the banking business, ventured into furniture, restaurant, auto and resort management. In 1998, he moved to Flippin, Arkansas and purchased Stetson's Resort. Stetson's Realty and Stetson's Construction was a major vision of Jim's. Jim loved the White River, loved to fish, raise cattle and horses. He had a great appreciation for the Ozarks. Jim always had a positive attitude. His warmth seemed to bring out the best in everyone he met. He was an inspiration to several young people who crossed his path in life. His family and long list of friends will miss him tremendously. Visitation was held Saturday, Aril 22, 2006 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 27, 2006 issue: Dr. James Marion MCCALLIE died April 18, 2006 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home following a lengthy illness. Graveside Services were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2006 at Dewitt Cemetery with Jeff McCallie officiating. With Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearer. The son of Willis of Margaret (COCKRUM) MCCALLIE was born Jan. 22, 1939 at Dewitt, Arkansas. He was a Christian. He graduated from Oklahoma State University Veterinary Medical School in 1962. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Alpha Psi fraternity. He owned a large animal veterinary practice in Kimball, South Dakota, where he received the "Friends of 4-H Award, was a member of the school board and taught Sunday School at the First Methodist Church. He raised and raced quarter horses and raised cattle. He enjoyed folfing and was an avid supporter of the Kimbell athletic teams and honored them with steak dinners. He returned to Arkansas in 1977 where he worked for USDA. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two daughters; two sons; two brothers; three sisters; four grandchildren and the mother of his children. Memorial may be made to the charity of one's choice. Mrs. GILLILAND was born February 18, 1924 at Millry, Alabama to Lee E. and Carrie DIXON TAYLOR. On January 3, 1946, she got married. She was a homemaker and member of the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Millry, Alabama. Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife; a daughter and her husband; four sisters; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her parents and two brothers, Ed and James, preceded her in death. Visitation was held Tuesday, Aril 25, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, AR. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 27, 2006 issue: Ernest Turner "Tex" WILSON, 79 of Russellville and formerly of Flippin, Arkansas died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. A son of the late James Toliver and Flossie OATES WILSON, he was born November 24, 1926 in Knox City, Texas. He was a twenty-year Untied States Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and the worked for the Air Force as a civilian. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Rogers-Rye Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2283. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce RIBCHESTER WILSON; and a brother, John WILSON; and a sister, Jimmie WILSON BURKE. Survivors include his daughter; a sister; a brother-in-law; and a nephew and niece. Cremation arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 1, 2006 issue: Billy Joe MARTIN, age 69, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Yakima, Washington. Mr. MARTIN was born November 25, 1936, in Pyatt, Arkansas to Herbert (Buster) MARTIN and Eunice BIGBY MARTIN. He married Bonnie Jane HAND of Yellville, Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include a son and wife; two daughters; four grandchildren; four brothers and their wives; and one sister and her husband. He is survived locally by many friends and relatives including five cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bonnie MARTIN and sisters, Gladys STRATTON and Vera PRICE. A committal service was held at the Columbia River in Washington State.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 27, 2006 issue: Rev. John Woodrow BEST, 87, Benton, Arkansas, a retired Church of God minister, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at Saline Memorial Hospital. The sixth of seven children, he was born September 20, 1918 near Dixon, Pulaski County, Missouri to Ella Sue HICKS BEST and Arundle Hill BEST. When he was four years old, the family resettled to Norfork, Arkansas, where he grew up. He was married on December 24, 1939. He served in the U. S. Army medical corps in World War II. John began preaching at an early age in rural churches in Baxter County, Arkansas. His first full-time pastorate was at the Flippin Church of God. He later served as pastor at churches in Benton and Little Rock. When he retired, he moved to the Summit community of Benton; however, he continued to help organize mission churches and minister to various churches in central Arkansas. In addition to his church family, Rev. BEST is survived by his wife of 66 years; special friends and caregivers; brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl and James, and four sisters, Florene BREWER, Hazel PARNELL, Velma Lee WAGGONER, and Lillie KING. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in the chapel of Roller -Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047) with Rev. Mike Stevens officiating. Mrs. PLY was born at Rocky Comfort, Missouri on March 6, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Tommy and Maymie LONG DICKENS. Geraldine married Delmar PLY on September 2, 1944 in Yakima, Washington. Mr. PLY preceded her in death on July 10, 1992. Mrs. PLY was a member of the Pyatt Church of Christ and also work in the Pyatt School cafeteria for a couple of years. Mrs. PLY is survived by two daughters. She is also survived by four grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gladys DICKENS and sister, Zelma BERTALOTTO. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 4, 2006 issue: Millard Chandler TOWNSEND, age 74, of The Welcome Ridge Road Community in Yellville, Arkansas died Friday, April 28, 2006 at Mountain Home, Arkansas. Mr. TOWNSEND was a retired chemical engineer for Dupont Corporation in Waynesboro. While working for Dupont, he worked in the Benger Lab Division. He transferred to Japan to open manufacturing plants and later retired as personnel director for Dupont in Seaford, Delaware. Prior to working at Dupont, he taught at VMI. In Arkansas he was appointed by then Governor Bill Clinton to the Prison Oversight Board. Survivors include is wife; son and stepson; three daughters; four brothers; three sisters; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. No visitation is scheduled.
