Mrs. HUMPHREY was born August 7, 1930 at Buffalo, Arkansas to Samuel and Faye ISOM MARTIN. She was married on May 12, 1945. She was a housewife and homemaker and member of the Rea Valley Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; her daughter and son-in-law; one sister; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death. Visitation was held Thursday, March 3, 2005 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Chapel in Yellvi8lle, Arkansas. Funeral service was held Friday, March 4, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas with Brother Jack Gilliland and Reverend Ron Robbins officiating. Mr. RISLEY was born December 18, 1910 at Peel, Arkansas to Ross and Nora YOCHAM. He was a cattleman who worked on the family farm. Mr. RISLEY was lifelong resident of Peel. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Peel Full Gospel Church. Surviving to cherish his memories are his wife of the home; son and daughter-in-law; one sister; two grandchildren and their spouses; and four great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation was held Monday, March 7, 2005 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel. The daughter of John Wiley and Alice C. (WILL) PATTON was born March 7, 1914 at Pyatt, Arkansas, she was a member of the Pyatt Assembly of God Church, Eastern Star of Harrison, a Sunday School Teach for several years, teaching at both Jasper and Pyatt. Millie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Raymond HUGHES and Dewey MOORE: four sisters; Bertie RICHARDSON, Orba CAMPBELL, Cecil BAUGHMAN and Orbs HONEYCUTT; two brothers, Theron PATTON and Kirby PATTON. She is survived by her stepson; a stepdaughter; eight step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Service was Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Crawford Cemetery with Mark Vance Officiating. Open visitation until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be nephews; honorary pallbearers will be nephews and nieces, friends and neighbors.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 10, 2005 issue: Beatrice Elizabeth KENNEDY of Yellville, Arkansas, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. She was 80 years old. Mrs. KENNEDY was born on March 2, 1925 at Norwalk Connecticut and was a life-long resident of Connecticut until May of 2004. Mrs. KENNEDY was a homemaker. Upon moving to Yellville to live with her daughter, she enjoyed friendship and games at the Marion County Senior Center and became a member of the Local AARP Chapter. Survivors include two daughters; two sons. Beatrice had 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will take place in Shelton, Connecticut.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 31, 2005 issue: William "Hal" SARRATT, 67, of Goodman, MO, died at 12:40 a.m., Sunday, March 6, 2005, at St. John's Medical Center, in Joplin, MO., following a three-week illness. He was born Jan. 31, 1938 in Yellville, Arkansas to William Ray and Nina (WOOD) SARRATT. Hal was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Granby High School in 1956, and later in life he attended and graduated from MSSC Police Academy. He served as McDonald County Sheriff Reserve for 20 years and was a member of the former Lions Club of Goodman, now known as Goodman Community Betterment Club. He owned and operated Sarratt Sawmill, in Goodman, since 1972 and, prior to that, had worked for his father. was married on June 10, 1956 in Granby. HIs wife survives him. Additional survivors include six children; one brother; three sisters; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; numerous aunts and nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dale SARRATT, and a son-in-law, Eddy STEPHENS. Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Clark Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Reese Morrow and Mark Taylor officiated. Interment followed at Howard Cemetery, Goodman. With pallbearers . Friends visited the funeral home on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., where the family received friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Arrangements were under the direction of Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Missouri.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 10, 2005 issue: Services for Dr. Robert CALVERY, Sr. of Flippin, Arkansas will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the Mountain Home Church of Christ in Mountain Home, Arkansas with Brother David Shipley officiating. Visitation was held at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas on Wednesday, March 9 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery in Flippin, Arkansas pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Dr. CALVERY was born on August 20, 1942 in Corinth, Mississippi. He was the son of Mary Ella SHERIN CALVERY and the late James William CALVERY. Dr. CALVERY is survived by his wife; one son and his wife; one daughter and her husband; two sisters; and five grandchildren. Dr. CALVERY, age 62, superintendent of the Flippin School District, died at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Monday morning at Baxter Regional Medical Center. Dr. CALVERY was a member of the Ball Church of Christ in Dora, Missouri, where he also served as a minister. He had been superintendent at Flippin for six years and planned to retire at the end of this school year. In 1999, the Flippin School Board voted unanimously to hire Dr. CAVLVERY to replace George Lewis, who had announced his retirement after 14 years. Dr. CALVERY was superintendent at Batesville Southside for 10 years prior to coming to Flippin. Prior to his decade at Batesville Southside, he was the superintendent at Sulphur Rock for four years from 1985-89. Dr. CALVERY received his master's degree in education at Tennessee Tech University. He received his doctorate in superintendency from the Mississippi State University in 1957. While studying for his doctorate, he taught at the university as well. He taught in high school for seven years, spent six years as principal and three years as an assistant superintendent. In addition, Dr. CALVERY also spent two years as a hospital administrator. He was 66 years old. Rev. WOOLLEN was born January 16, 1939 at Port Arthur, Texas to Virgil Paul and Julia Ann KING WOOLLEN. Rev. WOOLLEN was the minister of the Ozark Apostolic Church in Flippin, Arkansas, a U. S. Army veteran and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife; two sons; one daughter; one sister; and six grandchildren. His parents and son, Mark WOOLLEN, preceded him in death. Visitation was at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2004. He was 100 years old. Mr. OTT was born December 27, 1904 at Yellville, Arkansas to William and Alice SNIPES OTT. He married Edith JAMES. Mr. OTT was a retired manager for Miller Hardware Store from 1950 to 1968. He was a member of the Yellville First Baptist Church. Survivors include his two sons and their wives; two sisters; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. His wife, Edith JAMES OTT; two sisters, Neli JAMES and Leah WOOD; and granddaughter, Teresa Jo OTT, preceded him in death. Mrs. YEOMAN was born April 23, 1932 at Crowley, Colorado to Rollie and Anna Mae CROLEY EAGY. She married Gerald YEOMAN. Mrs. YEOMAN was a homemaker. Formerly of Carthage, Missouri, she had been a resident of Marion County for the past five years. Survivors include her son; her brother; her sister; and two grandchildren. Her parents, Rollie and Anna Mae EAGY; husband, Gerald YEOMAN; sisters, Leota OLSON and Letha PHILLIPS; and brothers, Merle and Ralph EAGY preceded her in death. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 10, 2005 issue: Flippin School District Superintendent Dr. Robert CALVERY died Monday morning at Baxter Regional Medical Center of an apparent heart attack. CALVERY had served as superintendent for the past six years and was scheduled to retire as of June 30 of this year. Prior to his appointment at Flippin, CALVERY previously served as superintendent at Batesvill Southside for ten years. He was superintendent at Sulphur Rock from 1985 to 1988. CALVERY received his masters in education from Tennessee Tech University and his doctorate from Mississippi State University. He also taught at the high school level in addition to serving as a principal and an assistant superintendent. Funeral details can be found on Page 2 of this edition. Flippin School Board President Dane Hudson stated that the Flippin school principals are 'handling things for right now". He added, "Dr. Carey, Mr. Bryant and Mr. Dodson are very capable administrators with a lot of knowledge and background." Hudson noted that the board will have to meet in a special session to discuss what steps to take next. Arkansas state law requires that each school district "shall have a superintendent". "This was shocking to all of us," Hudson stated. "He was a good superintendent for the Flippin School District. Under Dr. CALVERY's leadership, the district has completed a number of building projects and other positive accomplishments for the school system," he added. Dale Query is scheduled to take over the superintendent position as of July 1. Query was hired in a special meeting in February.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 10, 2005 issue: A Lakeview man died from injuries suffered after his motorcycle collided with a car at approximately 1:35 p.m. Friday on Highway 62 west of Yellville. Leland Peter FEHN, age 66, was riding a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle traveling eastbound when he attempted a U-turn just east of the old Highway 62 junction. According to initial Arkansas State Police reports, FEHN crossed into the westbound lane and struck a 1997 Toyota. The motorcycle caught on fire as a result of the impact FEHN was airlifted by a Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter to Baxter Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. FEHN's motorcycle came to rest in the eastbound lane, slowing traffic to one lane while paramedics attended to FEHN. The Arkansas State Police were assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff's Department, the Yellville Volunteer Fire Department, Baxter Regional Medical Center ambulance personnel and Air Evac. The accident raised the death toll on Arkansas highways to 96 for the year.

Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Van Brown officiating. Visitation was from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Funeral Home. Fred WILLIAMS died as this residence on Saturday, March 12, 2005. He was 62. He was born on June 14, 1942 at Warren, Ohio to Clyde Edward and Kelsie Bell WILLIAMS. He was married on December 21, 1971 at Detroit, Michigan. He was a Truck Driver and then worked at Baxter Healthcare until he retired in 2004. He was a United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran. He had been a resident of Mountain Home since 1993 moving here from St. Augustine, Florida. He was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife; a son; two daughters; four grandchildren; four brothers, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Interment was in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the North Central Arkansas Veteran's Council, Alley-White American Legion Post #52 Honor Guard and with pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Mr. WOODS was born July 24, 1925 at Detroit, Michigan to Vernal Earnest and Berthal Elma JONES WOODS. He retired from the United States Navy and the US. Post Office in Montclair, California. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve Association. Survivors include his four sons; four daughters; two sisters; fifteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 17, 2005 issue: Marla Ruth PATTON NUSZ age 43, went home to heaven Monday, March 14, 2005 after a long struggle with Type 1 diabetes, a kidney transplant and a two year battle with cancer. Maria was surrounded by her loving family at her home at 7609 Toltec Dr. in North Little Rock (NLR), AR. Marla was born February 9, 1962 in Wichita, KS. She grew up in Everett, WA and Pyatt, AR where she graduated high school at Bruno-Pyatt in 1980. She was an Honor Student, a varsity basketball player, cheerleader, and active in the FHA as well as Pyatt Baptist Church. Born into a family of accomplished musicians, Marla loved to play the guitar and sing with her family. Marla graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1985 with a B. S. in Education specializing in speech, language and communicative disorders. She was a member of the National Honor Society Alpha Chi and a Presidential Scholar. She was awarded an MS. In Speech Pathology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 1992. Marla absolutely adored her stepdaughter as well as her nine nieces and nephews. In fact, she loved all children and was a passionate advocate for them. She was divinely gifted at working with the most severely disabled young people to overcome the most difficult of speech, language and communicative disorders. As a career speech pathologist, she worked at ARCHILD, the Marion County School District, the Pulaski County Special School District and had her own private practice. Marla especially loved all facets of the children's ministry at Indian Hills Church where she taught Sunday School, led sign language classes, worked in the Sunday night "Kids' Thang" ministry and was a Kid's Camp counselor. Beloved by all, her lasting legacy is one of giving away God's unconditional love to all whom she met, Marla wanted everyone to know that God is love and that God is good. Marla is survived by her husband of 12 years; a step-daughter; her father; her mother; one sister and brother-in-law; four nephews; and one niece; one brother, and sister-in-law; one niece and one nephew . Visitation was Wednesday, March 16, 2005 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, Sherwood, AR. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 24, 2005 issue: William Paul "Bill" JETT of Yellville, Arkansas died Monday, March 21, 2005 at his residence in Yellville. He was 70 years old. Mr. JETT was born November 23, 1934 at Little Rock, Arkansas to Everett and Marie MILLER JETT. He was married on August 29, 1953. Mr. JETT was a retired industrial engineer for the Marion County Shirt Factory. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1952. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1960 where his major was in math and his minor was in physics. He was a member of the Yellville First Baptist Church. He retired as a Major in the U. S. Air Force after 40 years serving during Korea and Vietnam. He was a past Master of the Mt. Sinai and Oak Grove Masonic Lodges in Little Rock. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife; son and daughter-in-law; two daughters and one son-in-law; one brother; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. His parents and brothers, Burl and Gene JETT preceded him in death. No local visitation or service is scheduled. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 31, 2005 issue: Gloria Viane THOMPSON died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Bruno, Arkansas at the age of 81. She was born January 2, 1924 in Pelham Manor, New York. She is precded in death by her mother and father, James J. THOMPSON and Genevive V. THOMPSON and husbands, Joseph A. CUMMINGS, Jr. and George C. HYATT. She is survived by her brother; three children; and eight grandchildren. She enjoyed cool summers in her hom in Geneva, NY and warmer winters in Clinton, AR. She was a member of St. Judes Catholic Church in Clinton and the Rosary Society as well as the Clinton Garden Club, EHS and the Clinton Golden Club. Gloria was an avid traveler and often brought her travel campanion, Shady, her cat. She had a great humor and loved life. She will be deeply missed and was greatly loved by her family and friends. Visitation is to be held between the hours of 2:00-4:00 p.m., March 31, 2005 at the Pelham Manor Funeral Home in Pelham Manor, NY. Mass to be held at her Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on April 1, 2004 [2005] in Pelham, NY. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, NY.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of March 31, 2005 issue: Theda "Janie" LINCK WOODS died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was 80 years old. Mrs. WOODS was born November 29, 1924 at Summit, Arkansas to Robert and Sarah DARDIN DOVER, she married Mark LINCK. Mrs. WOODS was a housewife and mother. She was a Methodist by faith. Survivors include her two sons and two daughters-in-law; two daughters and two sons-in-law; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her parents, five brothers, Cleo, Leo, J. M., Fred and Isaac, two sisters, Juanita and one and infant sister, daughter, Melissa DIAN; and her husband Mark LINCK preceded her in death. Visitation was held Wednesday, March 30, 2005 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Yellville, Arkansas with Brother Jack Jefferson officiating. Burial will follow in Flippin Cemetery in Flippin, Arkansas with pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Hills or the American Cancer Society. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of April 7, 2005 issue: Esther D. "Grandma" STROBEL, age 84, of Yellville, Arkansas died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at her home in Yellville. Mrs. STROBEL was born March 27, 1921 at Venturia, North Dakota to Jacob and Christina HOFF BLUMHARDT. She was married on February 12, 1942. She was a homemaker. Formerly of Fargo, North Dakota, she had been a resident of Marion County for the past 27 years. She was a member of the Peel Full Gospel Church. Esther was affectionately known by the community as "Grandma." She took great pride in her needlework and blessed many friends and family members with her projects. More importantly, Ether's overwhelming passion was to know that her friends and family would be prepared to meet her in eternity. To that end she lived an exemplary Christian life. Survivors include hr husband; a son and daughter-in-law; three daughters and sons-in-law; two sisters; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Visitation was held Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Burns Chapel in Yellville. Funeral service was held Monday, April 4, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas, with Reverend Carroll "Curley" Johnson officiating. Burial Followed in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Yellville, Arkansas with pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Hospice of the Ozarks or the Gideon Bible Society. Arrangements were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas (870) 449-6621.
