CARROLL, DEDUBNIC, FIELD, REISKY posted by Mt Echo Newspaper on Thursday, April 13, 2000

Mt. Echo Newspaper; April 13, 2000 issue; Front Page: "Reward in murder case doubled to $100,000": By Julie Stewart Special to the Echo: The reward for help in solving the slaying of a Lead Hill-area woman has doubled to $100,000 authorities announced April 7. Boone County Sheriff Danny Hickman said the reward is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Bettine REISKY DEDUBNIC. Reisky DeDUBNIC, 54, was shot to death in her bed at home in the Tucker Hollow area of Bull Shoals Lake during the overnight hours of March 20, 1999. Authorities said the shooter stood on a patio outside the secluded house and fired several shots through a pair of French doors leading to her bedroom. Her daughter, Bettine CARROLL of New York, said she hoped increasing the reward from the original $50,000 would lead to a major break in the case. "I feel very, very close to an end and this might be the final incentive for someone to come forward", CARROLL said. Sheriff Hickman commented, "The only thing I can say is, it won't hurt. That's a lot of money." Anyone with information should call the Boone County Sheriff's Office at 807-741-8404. Callers can remain anonymous and still collect the reward. Authorities said an active investigation continues. Hickman estimated that officers have put in more than 3,000 man hours on the case. "This is one that we'll not just set aside and forget about," the Sheriff said, "It will be solved." He wouldn't comment on details of the investigation. However, authorities have said they think the victim and killer knew each other and that she may have angered her attacker somehow. The slaying drew national attention because REISKY DEDUBNIC was a descendant of Chicago department store founder Marshall FIELD. Her cousin, Marshall FIELD V, is former owner of the Chicago Sun-Times. An ardent land preservationist, REISKY DEDUBNIC established her farm near Lead Hill in 1990, CARROLL said. Her aim was to live a self-sufficient a life as possible on the land she loved. (Transcribed by Linda Haas Davenport)
