Ruth CHEEK BLAIR passed away in Yakima at Heritage Grove Care Center on April 2nd at the age of 82. Ruth was born at Pyatt on August 24, 1919 to Deroose and Hester DODD CHEEK and married Marland BLAIR July 17, 1948. She and Merland came to Yakima in 19153 where she worked at Pyramid Orchards. Marland precede her in death as did their son, Merland Jr. and two of her brothers Ray and Clay CHEEK. Ruth is survived by two sons, Jim HELMS and Kinnie and wife Ida BLAIR, all of Yakima; Two daughters, Virginia May FORD of Selah and Joyel Russsel of Yakima; two sisters, Ava BORDEN of Sunnyside, Wa. And Oletha KING of Yellville; a brother, O. J. CHEEK, also of Yellville; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter. Ruth was buried at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima. Ruth attended school at Snow, Arkansas. I met her and Marland here in Yakima when they bought their prescriptions at the pharmacy where I worked and I got acquainted with them there. She was always such a nice person and we visited a lot when they came into the pharmacy. My sympathy to her family. Posted in the Mountaineer Echo Week of April 18, 2002: Another former Arkansas lady, Lillie Fay KELLEY, passed away on April 6, 2002, at her home in Tieton, Wa. She was born in 1908 in Missouri to Arthur and Mattie DeVORE, but the family moved to Arkansas when she was 3 years old. She was raised there and married Roy KELLEY in Harrison in 1928. Lillie and Roy raised 8 children and first came to Yakima in 1955 to work in the fruit. They came to stay in 1968 where she attended Bethel Community Church and her funeral service will be at that church on Naches Heights Road, Naches. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy KELLEY of Yakima and Ronnie KELLEY of Cowiche, and James KELLEY of Lead Hill, Arkansas, as well as daughters, Juanita HILTON of Tumus, Missouri, Betty WHITESIDE of Springfield, Missouri, Carol BAUGHMAN of Tieton, Washington, and Reta HOYT of Summit, Arkansas. Also surviving are two brothers, Walter DeVORE and Troy DeVORE, both of Zinc, Arkansas, 31 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. My sympathy to this large family in the loss of their mother, sister, and grandmother.

The Mountainner Echo Newspaper April 11, 2002 issue: Jack GILLEY of Yellville On Wednesday afternoon. April 3, 2002, Jack Gilley, 74, entered into eternal rest at the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center. Born on August 23, 1927, to Claude and Flora GILLEY in Yellville, Arkansas, Jack was a farmer and resident of Marion County as well as a World War II veteran. After serving his country through military service, Jack married Evelyn KELLAM GILLEY on November 26, 1954, and began a life as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Together they raised three sons and two daughters; these surviving children and their spouses include Glen and Heather GILLEY of Bruno, David and Cassie Gilley of Yellville, Mike and Mary Lou TETRICK of Yellville, Randy and Kim GILLEY of Yellville, and Hank and Brenda RIDDLE of Peel, along with nine grandchildren. Jack GILLEY is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Flora GILLEY and his brothers Burl GILLEY, Clifton GILLEY, Doan GILLEY, and Phil GILLEY. Jack will always be remembered by his family as a man who put others before himself, a man who was the definition of love and family. By his friends he will be remembered as one who treated everyone fairly, sincerely offering every person the same hand of friendship. He was a man who took his family commitments and friendships seriously and one who will be deeply missed. Funeral arrangements included a visitation time Friday evening, April 5, 2002 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and funeral services were on Saturday, April 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas.

The Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Apr 11, 2002 issue: Jerry R. YOUNG of Everton Jerry Robert YOUNG, age 52, of Everton, AR, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at his home. Visitation was from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2002. Service was at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Holt Memorial Chapel in Harrison, AR with Norman Sewell officiating. Pallbearers were Wendel WATTS, Derwin MARTIN, Steve COPELAND, Ricky ANDERSON, Granvel MURRAY, and Timmy ROGERS. Honorary Pallbearers were his nephews, cousins, and the men of Cappa Road Church of Christ. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. Jerry was born December 26, 1949 in Harrison, AR a son of Herman D. and Alice L. (AKINS) YOUNG. He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Shirley (FILLINGHAM) YOUNG. He was a member of Cappa Road Church of Christ and was employed as a land surveyor. He was a lifelong resident of Everton. He married his wife, Diana (WATTS) YOUNG at Bellefonte on August 9, 1985. Survivors include his wife, Diana YOUNG of the home; mother, Alice YOUNG of Harrison; son, Michael Todd YOUNG of Russellville, AR; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda Marie (YOUNG) and Richard WOLFE of Harrison; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis R. and Connie YOUNG of Harrison; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy L. and Richard TAYLOR of Springfield, MO; and granddaughter, Alexis WOLFE of Harrison.

The Mountaineer Echo Apr 25, 2002 issue: Ada Helen CLARK of Yellville Ada Helen CLARK, 81, of Yellville, Arkansas died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Baxter Regional Medical in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was born January 19, 1921 at Indianapolis, Indiana the daughter of Joseph and Susie BRACKEN ROSE. Mrs. CLARK was a resident of Marion County for the past twenty years. She was a homemaker and member of the Lighthouse for Jesus Church in Yellville. Survivors include her brothers, Ben ROSE of Liberal, MO, Laurel K. ROSE of Yellville, AR, Leonard W. ROSE of LaPuente, CA and Melvin ROSE of Knob Noster, MO; sisters, Betty L. STORMS of Indianapolis, IN, Anna M. BELL of Yellville, AR and Barbara LAWS of Summit, AR; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Elmer CLARK; sisters, Hazel Eades and Lillie TROUTMAN; brother, Franklin D.R. ROSE; and her parents preceded her in death. A memorial service was held Friday, April 19, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Tabernacle for Jesus in Yellville. Burial was private. The Mountaineer Echo April 18, 2002 issue: Mrs. Donnie McENTIRE of Yellville, Arkansas died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, AR. She was 86. Mrs. McENTIRE was born December 16, 1915 at Yellville, Arkansas the daughter of Quince and Nora TREAT OTT. On August 14, 1937 she married Onimus McENTIRE. Mrs. McENTIRE was a retired cook and a housewife. She was lifetime resident of Marion County and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn MEARS and husband Harold, Katherine KASTNING and husband Junior and Jan BEAVER and husband Shorty all of Yellville, Arkansas; two sisters, Edith JONES of Yellville, Arkansas and bonnie SMITH of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and two nieces and three nephews. Her parents, Quince and Nora OTT; husband, Onimus McENTIRE; three brothers, Herbert OTT, J.B. OTT and Lonnie OTT; one sister, Rosemary OTT; one granddaughter; and on great-grandson, preceded her in death. Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2002 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Brother Tim CYPERT and Brother Terry DUFFY officiating. She was 91. Mrs. DAVENPORT was born January 20, 1911 in Rush, Arkansas the daughter of Thomas M. and Prilda MAXEY LAFFOON. On November 23, 1929, she married Carmon DAVENPORT. She was a housewife and member of the Yellville Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her sister, Nora TILLEY of Flippin, Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband, Carmon DAVENPORT; and four brothers, Jess, Andrew, Ernie and Ware, preceded her in death. Visitation was held Monday, April 22, 2002 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Yellville. Burial followed in the Layton Cemetery in Yellville. Survivors include his sons, David MCGINNIS of Kansas City, Kansas and Jerry Daniel MCGINNIS of Yakima, Washington; daughter, Jody MORRIS of Kansas City, Kansas; mother, Patricia MCGINNIS of Mountain Home, Arkansas; four aunts, Betty ALLEN of Kansas City, Kansas, Wanda FIELDER of Pineville, Arkansas; Mabel COBB of Flippin, Arkansas and Ruby WILLIFORD of Jordan, Arkansas; and six granddaughter. Visitation was held Tuesday, April 23, 2002 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Yellville. Burial followed in the Mountain View Cemetery in Flippin, Arkansas. Pallbearers Charles FIELDER, Pete COBB, John WILLIFORD, Jack MORRIS, Jerry COLEMAN and Charles KNAPP. W.A. COBB was the honorary pallbearer. The Mountaineer Echo Apr 25, 2002 issue: Mary Ellen LUNDEEN of Flippin Mary Ellen LUNDEEN of Flippin, Arkansas died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at the Twin Lakes Nursing Center in Flippin. She was 68. Mrs. LUNDEEN was born April 12, 1934 at Kewanee, Illinois the daughter of Leonard Rudolph and Evelyn Matilda FORANDER HEPNER. On May 4, 1956 at Kewanee, Illinois, she married Richard Gordon LUNDEEN. Mrs. LUNDEEN moved to Flippin in May of 1994. She was employed as a bartender. She was a member of the Baptist Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Bull Shoals. Survivors include two daughters, Delores CHEEK and husband Doyle of Flippin, AR and Jan DESY and husband Chuck of Gulfport, MS; son, Leonard LUNDEEN of Peru, IL; two granddaughters; four great-granddaughters; and sister, Margaret FELLOWS of Mesa, AZ and Ottowa, IL. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. No visitation is scheduled and funeral service is private. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee, IL. Memorials may be made to the Twin Lakes Nursing Center in Flippin. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Boaz Funeral Directors in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Yakima Valley news by Frankie Seay - The Mountaineer Echo Week of April 25, 2002: Our Yakima Herald carried an obituary for a man who has ties to Marion County through his mother, the late Eslie AUSTIN SOMMERS, as well as other relatives in that area. Eugene SOMMERS passed away in Yakima at the age of 71. He was born in Van Buren County to Eslie and Dewey SOMMERS. He moved with the family to Yakima in 1946 and both of his parents died here. Eugene is survived by his wife and one daughter, two granddaughters, and one brother John Wesley of Alaska. He also has survivors in Arkansas, Dorothy AUSTIN WADE is his aunt and in Yakima his cousin is Billie Jean YOUNG. I never knew Eugene or his family, but I have heard from so many people what a wonderful lady Eslie was. She lived here on Keyes road and passed away a few years ago at Yakima Convalescent Nursing Home. My sympathy to Eugene's surviving family.
