GILES posted by Leonard Cook on Friday, July 2, 1999

My mother always claimed she was born in Des Arc in 1900. Her parents were Charles Willis and Sarah (Sallie) GILES. I find a C.W. GILES there in the year my mother was born, listed as a railroad section foreman, the same as in Bald Knob in 1900 but the birth dates of the two entries differ by two years. He is listed as renting a house, but no family. Does anyone know of the GILES in Des Arc?

ARCHIBALD posted by Mona Carrico on Friday, July 9, 1999

I have a Compiled Service Record for a soldier who was serving in an Iowa Regiment when he died in the General Hospital at Du Valls Bluff. It gives his date of death, stating that he was buried the next day and gives a row and grave number. Is there a cemetery that was associated with the army hospital near Du Valls Bluff? I will be going through Prairie County on Monday, and would like to stop if it exists. I checked the cemetery list on the web site, but did not see anything that fits my information. I will appreciate any help. John ARCHIBALD was the soldier who died at DeValls Bluff. He was my paternal grandfather's uncle, and his regiment was from Wapello County, Iowa. BRANSON, MCPEAK posted by Virginia Matthews on Thursday, July 22, 1999

I am desperately trying to find information on my father's side of the family. His name was Shelby McPEAK. He was born in 1892, in England AR. We never knew anything about his family, as his parents died when he was around 7 years of age. We don't even know his parents' first names. The 1900 census shows him living with his maternal grandparents. There names are listed as George & Annie BRANSON, living in England, AR. If anyone could shed any light on this, I would be so grateful. gvirginia@juno.com
