JONES, OLIVER, SPARKS posted by Diane Baxter Williamson on Tuesday, August 6, 2002

OLIVER/SPARKS connection. On my visit to Prairie County last week I uncovered what I think is the answer to the Sarah Augusta OLIVER and Sallie L. OLIVER marriage to William "Bill" SPARKS. Sarah A. OLIVER married him May 10, 1864; she died Jan. 3 1886. Sallie L. OLIVER was Sallie L. JONES on the 1880, census a widow living with her father and mother. I found a marriage license for William SPARKS and Sallie L. JONES dated May 7, 1886 (Book F page 472 1881-1888). So it looks like when Sarah died William was left with your children, he married Sallie who helped his raise his children and he raised her children. The answer to 2 marriage records for Sarah and William is unclear but I did find other names listed 2 times which leads me to think they may have been entered in error way back when they only came to town every few weeks.

JONES, MINTON, OLIVER, SPARKS, WELLONS, WOODARD posted by Diane Baxter Williamson on Monday, August 26, 2002

OLIVER / JONES /SPARKS - After a visit to Prairie County last month I have come up with what I think is the answer to the Sarah / Sallie OLIVER and William "Bill" SPARKS marriage questions. Bill SPARKS first married Sarah Augusta OLIVER, daughter of Robert McKINNEY and Velairy Moliana WELLONS OLIVER. They married Mar. 10, 1864 in Prairie County. She died Jan. 3, 1886 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Prairie Co. Also buried there is a son, Robert N. SPARKS (2-28-1867 to 8-21-1953) and daughter Phhelia SPARKS MINTON (7-31-1879 to 2-1-1906). Other children of Bill and Sarah (1880 census) were Joseph M, Charles W., Alma A, William F, Rebecca and Ophelia, Hassie Mae was born after 1880. After the death of Sarah A. OLIVER SPARKS in 1886 he married his 2nd Oliver wife. She was Sallie L. OLIVER JONES. Daughter of William Henry and Hulda WOODARD OLIVER. They married on May 20, 1886 in Prairie Co. (book F 1881-1888 page 472) Anyone that can add to this please let me know. If you would like copies of the marriage license I'll send then to you. I am still looking for the children of Sallie L, they would be Mollie and Nannie JONES. I do not yet know if Sallie L. and Bill had children.

BRAGG, LIGHTFOOT, SHIRELLE posted by Sylvia Akin on Monday, September 2, 2002

Margaret Wilson BRAGG is enumerated on the 1860 Prairie County, Brownsville District, census as a schoolteacher. From the census it appears that this was a boarding school as two other teachers and six students are listed at the same address. Does anyone know the names of or have information on schools in the area at that time? Also William C. (Claxton) LIGHTFOOT is enumerated on page two of the same census and living at the same address as S.W. SHIRELLE(?, physician. LIGHTFOOT's occupation is difficult to make out. It looks like "Dang Buckers" or "Sang Buckeroo." Any suggestions? Thanks, Sylvia Akin

GALLAGHER, HOWARD, KINDER, SHOEMAKER, WITTENAUER posted by Catherine Wittenauer on Friday, September 20, 2002

My great-grandfather (William Henry WITTENAUER) moved his family from Illinois to Fairmount AR in 1907. He planted rice in the area and was a director of the Bank of Stuttgart. As I am researching my genealogy, I seem to be having a bit of trouble locating marriage records for his children. I believe my grandfather and his two brothers married Arkansas ladies (GALLAGHER, KINDER and HOWARD) and settled in the Stuttgart area for the remainder of their lives. I believe one of his sisters married locally (SHOEMAKER)and the other may have returned to Illinois. Can you please help me or else possibly direct me to a site to research these marriages? Also, is Stuttgart in Prairie County or is it in Arkansas County? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me. Catherine

HOGUE, HUNTSMAN, RAGLAN posted by Patricia Pollock on Sunday, September 22, 2002

I am interested in all I can learn about the HUNTSMANs who were in Prairie County from the 1860s on. Adam F. HUNTSMAN was the son of Adam R. HUNTSMAN, a Tennessee congressman among other things. Adam F. and Susan Jane HUNTSMAN were his longest-lived children. Both survived into the 20th century. Adam F. was born in 1839, and Susan Jane (Sue) was born in 1841. I know their parents' names, but I'm trying to find out more about their descendants. Sue married Samuel RAGLAN in 1860 in Shelby Co., TN but he died within about 5 months of their marriage. I see a marriage listed between S. J. RAGLAN and P. E. HOGUE April 27, 1880. I'm trying to discover if she had any surviving children. Adam F. had a daughter named Susan Jane, also. I know a little about her. My grandmother's name was Edith HUNTSMAN. Whatever I can learn about the HUNTSMANs and HOGUEs in Prairie County and Lonoke will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Under "Prairie County References and Web Links" listed in the "Reference Books" section is a Kerri G. Southard who will do looks ups in the 1890 Census Reconstruction BUT my email to Kerri came back to me. Has anyone any idea how to reach Kerri or where I could get my hands on the 1890 census reconstruction or of the other reference books listed. I have all of the book published by Marilyn Hambrick Sickel and would love to have the others listed.

BICKEL, BICKLE, NOON posted by Stevie Hughes on Thursday, September 26, 2002

I am looking for Hugh NOON. Hugh NOON was born between 1817-1822 in Ireland. He was in Staunton, VA by 1845 when he married Mary Adeline BICKLE. Hugh NOON died in Argenta, AR on September 29, 1876, while "visiting a son". I believe this son was Michael T. NOON. Hugh NOON's body was not returned to Staunton, VA. I believe he is buried somewhere in/near Argenta, AR. Any information on Hugh NOON or his Arkansas descendants would be greatly appreciated. I have complete family histories on the NOON and BICKLE families who remained in Staunton, VA and would be most happy to share. Stevie Hughes (in Texas) Stevie1302@AOL.Com
