Mountain Echo December 1959 / January 1960 Ed Gentry Dies After Long Illness Edward L. GENTRY died December 27, 1959 at his home in Yellville after a long illness. He was born in Fulton, Mo., March 3, 1883, the son of Harmon GENTRY and Kimmie GENTRY and came with his parents to Marion County by wagon when he was about five years of age and had been a resident here throughout his long life. In 1904 he was married to Daisy REID who preceded him in death by almost 13 years. Ed was employed most of his young life in the mines at Rush. He moved his family to Yellville in 1927. He had never been affiliated with any church but during the last weeks of his life Ed accepted Christ as his personal saviour. Mr. Gentry is survived by two sons, Jerry GENTRY of the home and Faris GENTRY of Kingsland, Ark., one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Duhon of the home. Two grandchildren, Joe Ed and Janis GENTRY. Also two sisters, Mrs. Maude HICKS of Visalia, Calif., and Mrs. Effie EVANS of Ava, Mo. Eighteen nieces and nephews, including Ernie GENTRY of Mountain Home. Out of town people who attended the funeral are: Rev. and Mrs. Ed HAND of Dangerfield, Texas; Miss Tamra LOE of Benton, Ark.; Mrs. Dora GENTRY PHARIS of Andrews, Texas; Mrs. Effie EVANS of Ava, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Lee EVANS of Evans, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie EVANS, Forsyth, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Curtis EVANS, Ava, Mo.; Mrs. Howard HARRIS, Everton, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. Ernie GENTRY, Mountain Home, Ark.; Mrs. Ruby CAMPBELL, Harrison, Ark.; Mrs. L. H. DAVIS and Mrs. Nellie COOPER, Mountain Home; Mr. MONTGOMERY, Mountain Home; Rev. REECE, Mountain Home. The funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Yellville Assembly of God Church with Rev. J.C. BOLIN in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. Ed HAND, nephew of the deceased. Burial was made in the Layton Cemetery by the Holt-Burnes Funeral Home. The pallbearers were Scott COWAN, Lucian MELTON, Mart STUBBS, Ned STUBBS, Joe CRAIG, and Jewel HUDSON.

Jan 31, 1960 Coweta, Oklahoma newspaper January/February 1960 Cal WILLIAMS, son of Joseph N. and Elizabeth WILLIAMS, was born in Marshall County, Arkansas January 2, 1869 and passed away in Coweta, Okla., January 31, 1960 at the age of 91 years and 29 days. He was married to Minnie COCHRAN of Yellville, Ark., July 11, 1897 and to this union seven children were born. He worked in and near Rush, Ark., for many years before moving with his family to Coweta, Okla., in August 1920. In Coweta he was an employee of Okla. Natural Gas Co., and later farmed in Chaska Bottoms near Coweta, but retired from active duty several years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 26, 1943. A grand daughter, little Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee WILLIAMS, passed away Oct. 31, 1956. He is survived by all of his children, four sons; Loy and Lee of Tulsa, Okla., Kelley of Steele, Mo., and Joe of Muskogee, Okla.; three daughters, Doris GENTRY of Napa, Calif., Kelsie McKINNEY of Beckley, W.Va., and Mary HATFIELD of Coweta, Okla. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church of Coweta with Rev. C. TROY officiating. Burial was in Vernon Cemetery under direction of Wright Funeral Home.

MAXEY Samuel Hall MAXEY was born in Missouri February 11, 1885 and passed away June 27, 1960 in Marion County Hospital at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife Virgie of the home; three daughters: Mrs Frank SMITH, Siloam Springs, Mrs James CASEY and Mrs Bob NASH both of Yellville; two sons Harve MAXEY of Yakima and Arvil MAXEY, North Little Rock; 16 grand children. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Yellville Assembly of God Church with the former pastor Rev J C BOLIN, Lexington, Mo., and Rev Don WALKER, Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Yellville Cemetery with Yellville Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Ran HURST, Dan CASEY, Joe CRAIG, Karl KEETER, Mart STUBBS and E L KIRKWOOD.

Roscoe was born August 26, 1893 in Marion County, Arkansas, he passed away April 15, 1967 in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma. He is also buried in Wetumka Cemetery. Roscoe and Goldie had three children.)

Baxter Bulletin, Mountain Home, AR 15 Dec 1960 John Henry RAY, Resident of Cotter Funeral services for John Henry RAY, aged 82, of Cotter were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Cotter Assembly of God Church with Rev Bill HICKMAN officiating. Interment was in the Flippin Cemetery, under the direction of Roller Funeral Home. Mr RAY, who had lived in Cotter for the past 15 years and was a retired farmer, died Sunday night in the Marion County Hospital at Yellville. Pallbearers were Robert FIELDING, Clifford GILLILAND, Roy FINLEY, Jeff FROST, Claxton COLLIE and Floyd TRIVITT. Mr RAY was born at Flippin on September 10, 1878, the son of the late James Monroe RAY and Isabel BEAVERS RAY. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Bell RAY of the home; three daughters, Chloe KELLEM of California, Helen RORIE of Yellville and Lorene ROWE of Cotter; two sons, Allis [sic] RAY and Howard RAY, both of Cotter; 24 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother.

He was a son of George HALL and Mary WOOD HALL. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Christian Church in Flippin. Rev. Marvin L. JEFFERS and Rev. Leroy THOMPSON will conduct the services. Burial will be made in Hurst Cemetery. The Holt Burnes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. T. W. HURST of Flippin, and a son, James L. HALL of the Little Rock Air Force Base, three brothers, Baxter, of Ash Grove, MO, Alfonso of DePew, OK, and Joe of Flippin, one sister, Mrs. Kate PARNELL, also of Flippin. Pallbearers will be Jim DUGGINS, Otis BURRIS, Ran ROSE, Francis GIBSON, Clifford GILLILAND, and Aaron DEWEY.

She was born December 4, 1910, a daughter of Charles and Anna May BEAVERS. Survivors include her husband, Arza E. HALL; a son, H. C. HALL of Trenton, MO; a daughter, Mrs. Patsy Faye BROWN of Springfield, MO; her mother, Mrs. Anna Mae BEAVERS of Harrison; two brothers, Luther BEAVERS of Wilmington, CA; Paul BEAVERS of Aurora, MO; a sister, Mrs. Carl FITZGERALD of Tulsa, OK and one grandchild. Funeral was held Wednesday, April 5, 1961, at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Don WALKER, Harrison, AR. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Hobert ALLEN, Keith HAMLET, Doyne MELTON, G. O. TILLEY, L. E. HUDSON and Jim TURNER.

Taey Co., Woman dies, has 154 survivors. Melissa Hannah RICHARDSON was born to Wiley and Betsy Jane GREEN RICHARDSON July 12 1871 in near Yellville Arkansas. She was united in Marriage to James Langston HUGHEY and to this union 11 children were born which 10 are still living. One son Ora Alfred preceded her in death in 1907 and James Langston "Lank" her husband, one brother Robert RICHARDSON and one sister Charlotte "Lottit" BALLARD also have passed away. Her Survivors include 6 sons and 4 daughters. Offie HOWARD of Greenfield Calif., Audie DAVIS of Skitook Okla., Otie RAINES of Lexington Okla., Almus HUGHEY of Cedar Creek Mo., Alva HUGHEY of King City Calif., Troy HUGHEy of Arcola Mo., Clay HUGHEY of Grant Pass Oregon, Ben HUGHEY of Klamath Falls Oregon, Argie MOORE of Kirbyvile Mo., Virgie CLARKSON of Hollister Mo., two half sisters Mrs. Eva DAVIS and Virgie FLETCHER of Omaha Ark., 45 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, among other numerous relatives. She Was Saved many years ago and lived a faithful Christian life. She attended church until her health would not permit her to. She departed this life July 14, 1961 at the age of 90 years and 2 days in the Lakeview Rest Nursing home in Ozark Beach MO, where she had spent the last year. All who knew her loved her. Funeral services were conducted July 17, 1961 at 1:00 p.m. in the Whelcer Chapel. According to her request the Rev. Bob Grady of Ozark Beach MO officiated. A Quartet of her Granddaughters Barbara GIMLIN, Shirley AUBIN, Beverly JEFFERY and Dorothy DAVIS sang "Beyond The Sunset and Rock Of Ages. They were accompanied on the Organ by Bonnie Kirkpatrick. Six of her Grandsons carried her to her final resting place, Harley HUGHEY, Wendell HUGHEY, Clovis MOORE, Phillip DAVIS, Garland CLARKSON and Don CLARKSON Ayre-Goodwin Funeral Services of Springfield in cooperation with Whelch Chapel of Branson . Interment was made in the Ozark Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Mountain Echo, Yellville, AR 12 Oct 1961 Jeanne G HUDDLESTON, aged 47, retired Air Force Captain, died at Sumter, South Carolina, Sunday. He was a native of Gamaliel, and was born December 17, 1913. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Ruth POORT HUDDLESTON; his father, Ralph HUDDLESTON, Yellville, four brothers; Russell L, Yellville, Glen M, Westport, Ark., Charles C, Wichita and James D, Wichita; three sisters: Mabel WORLEIN, Wichita, Mrs Sara KIRKLAND, Wichita and Shirley SHEA, Yellville. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 12 at 3 p.m. at the Christeson Funeral Home Chapel, Harrison. Burial will be in a Harrison Cemetery with Christeson Funeral Home in charge.
