Florence DOSHIER RAINS of Yellville, (Mt. Echo Newspaper, Yellville, AR) died Aug 4, 1998 at the Marion County Nursing Home. Mrs. RAINS was born in Marion County, the ninth child of Thomas C. DOSHIER and Eliza Jane (SIMS) DOSHIER. She was a registered nurse and lived several years in Memphis, Tenn. and worked in the Shelby County Hospital. Her husband, Curt RAINS, predeceased her. Services were held at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry DUFFY officiating. burial was in the family plot in Layton Cemetery. Mrs. RAINS was one of eleven children, nine of which predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Gladys MORROW, of Yellville, and numerous nephews and nieces and their children. The brothers and sisters predeceasing her are, Roy DOSHIER and T.C. DOSHIER of Tulsa, Okla., Walter DOSHIER of Harrison, William Bascum DOSHIER of Gering, Nebr., Mary Grace DOSHIER, Thomas Wesley DOSHIER, Irene NORBERG, and Mae PATTERSON of Yellville and Cecil RANDOLPH of Mountain Home. Pallbearers were Hollis MORROW, Jon DOSHIER, Bill DOSHIER, Shorty DOSHIER, Tommy MORROW, Lynn BAKER, Lewis MANHART and Dalo DIXON. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Robert AHRENS, Dr. Richard AHRENS, and the Marion county Nursing Home Staff. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.

Bill ADAMS, 79, Yellville; Mountain Echo, Thursday, August 20, 1998. Bill ADAMS, age 79, of Yellville, died Aug. 13, 1998 at Mountain Home. Mr. ADAMS was born Aug 17, 1918 in Maumee to Leonard and Nora (KEELING) ADAMS. He was retired from the Yellville-Summit School District as a maintenance supervisor after 24 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Tomahawk Baptist Church and the St. Joe Masonic Lodge. He had been a lifelong resident of Marion and Searcy counties. Survivors include his wife, Marge ADAMS of Yellville; his son, David Lee ADAMS of Flippin; his stepson, Arthur HERZLER of New London, Conn; his stepdaughter, Kathleen Binam of Alpena and five grandchildren. Services were held at the Tomahawk Baptist Church with Bros. John PARTON and Jimmy TERRELL officiating. Mary Alice ELAM, 86, of Gassville (Mt. Echo Newspaper, Thursday, September 3, 1998) died Aug. 29, 1998 at the Care Manor Nursing Home at Mountain Home. Mrs. ELAM was born May 8, 1912 in Flippin, to Tobe and Helen (ROWDEN) KEETER. She was a lifetime area resident. She graduated from Colorado State Teachers in Greeley, CO with a BA Degree as a Music Major. She continued her education at Arkansas State Teachers College (Now UCA) in Conway, AR and also at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, earning a minor in Business Education. She organized the local Future Business leaders of America (FBLA) in 1955. She served as State Future Business Leaders of America Advisor 1967-1969. She had a State FBLA Scholarship named after her in 1972. She was a Charter Member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of Tau Gamma. She was awarded a lifetime PTA pin in 1970. Mrs. ELAM taught for 38 years at various schools in her career. She taught at several high Schools including Bruno, Leslie, Bentonville, Tulsa, OK, Yellville-Summit, State Teachers College (UCA) in Conway and finished her career at Mountain Home High School from 1955-1974. She belonged to Local, State and National organizations related to teaching fields. She is survived by her brother, Tank REA and his wife Billie of Mountain Home; her nieces, Phyllis REA BURLESON and her husband Bill of Mountain Home, and Linda ELAM TURNER and husband Ron TURNER of Manford, OK; she was a great aunt to Robin BURLESON BANKS and her husband Hardy BANKS of Benton, and their children, Derik, Tyler and Will; and to Scott BURLESON and his wife Regina of Corpus Christi, TX and their children, Jason, Brice and Courtney. Local cousins include Mrs. Hal (Rosie) BODENHAMER and Terry POYNTER of Mountain Home and Nep PHILLIPS of Flippin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dolph ELAM, her parents, two brothers, Charles KEETER and Kermit KEETER and a step-father, Bryan J. REA. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home.Services were held at the Kirby Funeral Home with Rev. Carroll JACKSON officiating. Burial was at the Layton Cemetery in Yellville. Pallbearers were Jimmy JOHN, Buzzy DEW, Bill EUBANKS, Terry POYNTER, Robert NELSON and Dr. John AHRENS. Osa Ann ADAMS, age 93 of Odessa, MO died Aug 29, 1998 at the New Haven Nursing Home in Odessa. Mrs. ADAMS was born Jan 8, 1905 in Pyatt, the daughter of John Harve and Mary Ella (MELTON) TABOR. She was a housewife. Survivors include her sons, Rudell ADAMS of Odessa, and Ronnie ADAMS of Pyatt; her daughters, Juanita LAMB of Gold, MO and Sue SHEEK of Odessa; 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends throughout the community. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jess ADAMS, seven brothers, three sisters, four sons and one granddaughter. Services were held at the Pyatt Community Building with Terry EDDINGS officiating. Burial was at the Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. DODD was born Oct 13, 1932 in Bruno, the son of Delos and Winie (CHOWNING) DODD. he was a self-employed exterior siding engineer. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and had been a resident of Cobt for 12 years after Moving there from Mountain Home. Survivors include his wife, Louise DODD, of Cabot; his sons, Dennis Lee DODD of Mountain Home and Keven DAVIS of Ridgecrest, CA; his daughters Diane O'BERLE of Hartford, Conn and Teri CLARK of Ridgecrest, CA; his sisters, Pauline DODD of Mountain Home; Blanche REYNOLDS of Harrison and Joy MITCHELL of Mountain Home; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Guy E. PHILLIPS, 75, Flippin From Mountain Echo Thursday, September 24, 1998 Guy E. PHILLIPS, age 76, of Flippin, died Sept. 14, 1998 at his home. Mr. PHILLIPS was born Sept. 17, 1921 in Yellville, the son of Thomas H. and Hannah (DUGGINS) PHILLIPS. On April 27, 1946 he was united in marriage with Doris COPLEN. He was a retired building contractor, a veteran of World War II, a member of the Flippin Baptist Church, the VFW in Cotter, a Masonic member since 1952 and he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a lifelong resident of Marion County. Survivors include his wife, Doris COPLEN PHILLIPS of Flippin; his son, Gary D. PHILLIPS of Flippin; his daughter, Guyla PHILLIPS MORELOCK of St. Louis, Mo; his brothers, Harold Gene PHILLIPS of Newport News, Va., and Leroy PHILLIPS of Flippin; his sisters, Zelma GREEN of Libby, Mont., and Mary GRAY of Flippin; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Miss HURST was born March 23, 1904 in Yellville the daughter of Arthur and Mary A. (COWDREY) HURST. She was a homemaker. She had been a resident of Shannon County, Mo. for the past year after moving there from Tulsa, Okla. Survivors include her sisters, Della COCHRAN and Edith WOOD, both of Yellville. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters. Services were held at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel with Fred and Kent Goodall officiating. Madeline Noe CARSON, 77, Little Rock (Thursday, October 1, 1998 Mountain Echo) Madeline Noe CARSON, age 77 of Little Rock died Sept. 20, 1998. Mrs. CARSON was born on Nov. 17, 1920 in North Marion County near the White River and Peel on a farm which is now beneath the Bull Shoals Lake. A life long resident of Arkansas she had lived in Little Rock for the past 56 years. Her loves were her God, her family, and the hills and valleys of North Arkansas. She was an ardent Razorback fan. Survivors include her husband of nearly 53 years, Nat M. CARSON; her daughters, Linda Noe REAVES of Little Rock, and Cynthia CARSON of Alpharetta, GA; her grandsons, John Barry REAVES, Jr. of Little Rock, and Joseph Carson REAVES of Austin, Tex., and her sister, Virfinia Ann DAVIS of Pottsbille, Ark. She had been a resident of Harrison for 35 years after moving there from Anderson Flat. Mountain Echo October 29, 1998 John C. REA, 67, Tecumseh, Mo. John C. REA, age 67, of Oakland died Oct 21, 1998 at his residence. Mr. REA was born Sept. 18, 1931 in Oakland, the son of John C. Sr. and Millie (HAWKINS) REA. On Mar 17, 1991 in Cotter he was united in marriage with Paralee DENTON. He was a lifelong resident of the area; a road grader operator for 26 years for Marion County and a school bus driver for the Mountain Home school district for 15 years. He was a member of the Oakland Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Paralee REA of Tecumseh; his son, John C. REA III and his wife, Donna of Herington, Kansas; his daughter, Christine JOHNSON and her husband Bill of Gassville; his stepson, Ricky BRIGGINS of Arizona; his brother, L.C. Mrs. DAVIS was born Mar 16, 1951 in Yellville, the daughter of Marion F. and Nancy (CLARK) NORMAN. She graduated in 1969 from Yellville-Summit and attended nursing school. She was an LPN and worked as a nurse in Yellville. She attended the Wapanucka Baptist Church and was a member in the Wapanucka Foundation. Mrs. DAVIS had married Gerald DAVIS and later married Don FOSTER. Brenda was a widow leaving three young children at home. Survisors include her children, Lori Annette ABLES and husband Bobby of Trona, Calif.; Adam and Michael FOSTER and Dustin Lee NORMAN all of Wapanucka; her brothers, Floyd NORMAN and wife Jo of Houston, Tex., Marvin Lee NORMAN and wife Barbara, of Gassville, Charles NORMAN, of Trona, Calif. and Gary Wayne NORMAN of Gassville; her sisters, Opal June JONES and husband Arthur of Greenwood, Miss. and Helen Rae REYNOLDS, of Dallas, Tex; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many very dear and loved friends. Mrs. BAKER was born Aug. 31, 1914 in Marion County to Marion and Ibby (LANGSTON) SHIPMAN. She attended public school near Freck. After moving to Kansas City as an adult, Mrs. BAKER worked as a retail clerk for Safeway Food. She was an avid quilter and long time member of Calico Patches and Pieces Quilting Group. She was a long time member of Kansas City Baptist Temple. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Bennie L. BAKER of Raytown; her daughter, Alice Jackie BAKER BELL of Lake Quivera, Kan.; her son Gary D. BAKER of Lee's Summit, Mo.; her brother, Con SHIPMAN of Lincoln, Mo.; her granchildren, Derek A. HERMAN, Tague A. HERMAN, Amy E. TROLLINGER and Seth M. BAKER; and her great-grandchildren, Jacob A. HERMAN and Colin S. HERMAN. Mountain Echo November 5, 1998 Tank REA, 72, Mountain Home Chester F. "Tank" REA, age 72, of Mountain Home, died Oct. 30, 1998 at the Baxter County Regional Hospital. Mr. REA was born on April 2, 1926 in Summit to Bryan J. and Helen (ROWDEN) REA. He was a lifetime resident of Arkansas. He graduated from Yellville-Summit High School in 1944 when World War II was going on. Since he had pre-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force he left immediately for basic training upon finishing school. After the war ended, he worked for a short while in Tulsa, Okla. for the Firestone Company. He then returned to Yellville where he ran a service station with his father-in-law, Dee PHILLIPS. In 1950 he completed Mortuary College in Kansas City and returned to work with Yellville Funeral Home and Yellville Insurance Agency. In 1959 he started the Tank Rea Insurance Agency and was associated with Christeson Funeral Home of Harrison. In 1967 he opened a second office in Mountain Home. Both offices are still in operation at present. He and his wife have lived in Mountain Home since 1977. Mr. REA is survived by his wife, Billie Ruth REA of the home, one daughter, Phyllis REA BURLESON and her husband Bill of Mountain Home; a grandson, Scott BURLESON and wife Regina and their children, Jason, Brice and Courtney of Corpus Christi, Tex. A granddaughter, Robin BURLESON BANKS and husband Hardy and their children, Derik Tyler and Will of Benton. Local cousins include Mrs. Hall (Rosie) BODENHAMER and Terry POYNTER of Mountain Home. Mr. REA was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan J. and Helen REA, his sister, Mary Alice ELAM and his brothers, Charles and Kermit Keeter and Bryan Joe REA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain Home. Services were held at the Kirby-Conner-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Johnson officiating. Burial was at the Layton Cemetery in Yellville. Military Honors were held at the cemetery by the North Central Arkansas Veteran's Council, Alley-White American Legion Post #52 serving as honor guard.
